I think everyone should be able to wear what they want to school. They should not make everyone wear the same thing. Noone wants to look the same everyday. That would get so boring. I would hate it. I like having the option of being different and making a fashion statment. Not everyone is the same and everyone has a different personality. Having uniforms takes away from being who you are and it makes you lool like someone your not. I do not agree with uniforms in public schools.

Uniforms are an excellent conditioning tool. These young minds will better accept that they are the property of the State, and owe full allegiance to their governmental masters. Physical individuality promotes mental individuality. Obviously, that is not good for the longevity of the State. Free-thinkers are dangerous to the State.

I don't think free-thinkers are a danger to the state. Free-thinkers will try to keep the government in check and I think someone who has their own mind is great and they aren't molded into one thing, that is completely unrealistic.

Wearing a uniform has nothing to do with rules. I agree that in some professions ie JOBS where ADULTS work, a uniform like scrubs or something is a good idea because not only does it show people what you do, it keeps you from getting your clothing dirty. I don't see any reason for kids to wear uniforms except that there are some adults who believe it makes everybody the same, which it doesn't.

I don't very support to wear school uniforms. Because everybody is different. The children will not have their personality if they wear the same and look the same. Although school uniforms have its advantages, but it also has the negative aspects. I prefer the students to wear the proper clothes rather than uniforms. It can be boring for them. I love China

When I was in school, I felt the same and would ask my parents why I couldnt wear colour dress like my sisters who wore them to college...I was told that it is for uniformity and to make children concentrate on studies rather than on others clothes...It did make sence, because, later when I watched my friends and other students at school, (we had more than 3000 students at any time) there were students from diffrent financial background, from average to filthy rich (that was the only convent school in our district)So if children were let to wear colour clothes, other lesser privilaged children would feel bad about not being able to wear clothes like that...Also in early teenage, wearing colour clothes will only distract the attention. You know what I mean..

I think uniforms should be worn in the elementary and junior high kids. When there are uniforms, most of the time kids are seen equally and you can't differentiate if there are from a poor family vs midde class or rich family. I think high school kids should be given a dress code, such as no low cut shirts, no short short shorts, nothing to show off a certain part of their body.

I have to agree with you. Allowing kids to wear their own clothes just causes more bullying for those who can't afford the latest fashions and labels.

I think everyone should wear the clothes which indispose the public towards them, no matter they want or not ( imagine if someone want to wear bikini!). The school is not a catwalk, it's a place to study to become well educated. The young people, especially the teenagers, like to be beautiful and stylist, but they usually don't have any idea about the beauty, or a good look, so they should let the adults show them a simple beauty, it's the uniform which takes part in creating a social environment, where there's no disctinction between the rich and the poor, as everybody wear similar clothes. It's also a way to recognize the pupils, and when they're in uniform, their behavior seems better. Moreover, school uniforms are not like military uniforms. The latter has a unique color and a unique style but with the former, you have a free choice of style. It may be make you someone you don't like but it makes you someone you should be.

well, here in my city, i think uniforms are a great idea or at least partial uniforms (wearing the same shirt as everyone else) because that way, the teachers (etc) can spot someone who is a stranger and who could cause potential harm to the school quite easily.

I don't either, and I am a parent. I would never send any of my kids to schools that required a uniform. Some people give all sorts of reasons why they are good, but I believe those reasons are bad. First, people state uniforms are cheaper and you do not have to decide what to wear every day. They are not necessarily cheaper, and if you have some choices of colors or tops and bottoms, you do still decide, but they do all look the same. Looking the same is still not exactly the same. Some people will look better in the uniforms than others. Some will fit better than others. I know the intention is to take the focus off what anybody looks like and clothing in general but it still doesn't do the trick. I think it ruins individuality, and forcing everybody to conform or be the same is WORSE than encouraging people to be who they are. I'd rather see a group of people who groom themselves so they SHOW who they are rather than a group of people who are all wearing white shirts and khaki pants because someone says they all have to. A white shirt and khaki pants tells me NOTHING about a person.

I disagree with that there should be uniforms in public schools just like most mylotter in this discussion. I was in Bangladesh until I was 13 and since 1st grade we had to wear uniforms. It was mandatory and I did not like it at all. Uniforms stop you from representing your true self, your personality. Some directions on what you can't wear might be okay, but I oppose uniforms in public schools.

Well, I agree to wear the prescribed school uniform in order to determine the school itself.

I don't think uniforms should be mandatory at public schools. thats why its a public school. Poeple should be able to wear what they want and not have to dress like their told to. More poeple wouldn't even go to school if they had to wear uniforms so the dropout rate would rise.

I don't agree too. Wearing uniform everyday makes my day boring. I could not express myself the way I always wanted to do. Wearing different clothes, styles and colors will definitely interesting and exciting everyday.

Though I feel the same way as you do. Getting to wear whatever one wants to school helps show what they really are. But still I would say, that uniforms are good, at least till you join you college. As till school, we all just depend on our parents ability to pay for us and hence to put it straight, there may not be every one who could afford good clothes like some can and that brings inequality. Since school is not a place of fashion but a place of learning and building comradeship, so schools should have uniforms, at least all the public schools should. Take Care

I completely agree with you, I do not agree with having uniforms. I think that if a school forces uniforms then it takes away all individuality of the students...granted people won't be obsessing about who has the latest clothes and whatnot, but I think that's the fun part, and when I was in high school I was huge on accessorizing everything.

My youngest daughter's high school didn't require students to wear uniforms but they had a strict dress code, especially in the area of what kind of shirts the students were allowed to wear. I had no problem with this, although my daughter didn't like it very much. It saved me money...especially when she was in her gothic skater punk stage and only wanted to wear clothes from a couple of really cool (and pretty expensive) shops at the mall. School should not be about who is wearing what and who's clothes are more expensive...it should be about learning. There is plenty of time to make a fashion statement after school and on the weekends.

In my country the boys and girls wear uniforms to school by law. The idea is that there are no evident diferences in wealth among the students. At least, that´s how it began. Now, with all the expensive toys and gadgets that young people have, it doesn´t serve it´s purpose.

Hi tuckersheri...Have a happy mylotting day.....Uniform system for schools was initially introduced by the Government to eliminate racism among the students studying in the same school......A child from a very rich family as well as from a poor family can study in the same class....If we ban the uniform wearing system as per your wish, then what will happen is...That rich kid will wear a royal dress may be even diamond studded ones..whereas think about that kid from poor family....He will happen to wear only some torn dresses....This will make that poor boy feel for his poverty, then moreover with the dress identification itself there are chances of partiality spreading among the teachers and the students......So its better to have uniforms in schools dear friend...
