What influence do you think TV has on children?

On the positive side, children can learn something when they spend time watching TV,of course,TV programmes should be selected and controled by parents. On the negative side, the harm largely surpasses the benefits I think.of all kinds of programmes, they tend to watch the ones that don't encourage children to create or need much thinking,it's a waste of time, isn't it?and, what I worry most is the soap operas which are almost about adult things--full of love stories and =o sometimes...,and we can't keep an eye on them every second, that makes children mature early and what's worse is that they think they can probably do such thing! They are full of curiosity, you know...God! What do you think? What do you usually do with this? Please let me know your ideas, thanks.

Hi there,.. Unfortunately, The TV programmes doesnt give more advantages for our kids these days, especially in my country. I dont know may be the company wants to get more profit but not pay attention what the children need. So i often prohibit my kids to watch the TV unless there is a cartoon movie, or andventure programmes. Wish we have The station Tv who really care bout the children future not only take advantage of it. Thanks friend Good luck..:)

It's the same situation here...Whenever the TV is switched on,there're either TV commercials or take shows that tell you how to be prettier with fashionable dresses and amazing shoes... Is there any concerns here for children? I really doubt that...

I avoid regular TV programing as much as possible. I personally don't think watching TV is the problem. I believe it is the media marketing that really affects our children.

Hey, Well I think it all depends on what they watch. If they watch something educational, then that is totally fine, but if they watch something that is really bad for them, I don't really think that it is fine and could scar them for life. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

Hi, spring I think TV is indeed a good medium for learning. However, there are few channels dedicated to children. Thus, I think, the young ones should not be left to decide what show to watch. The parents must always be there to watch the show too or at least make sure that it is good for the kids. Parental guidance is a must. Have a nice day!

I think TV affects badly to the children when it is viewing for long time and everyday basis. Many studies that were conducted to get idea on how TV affects people report that TV viewing creates all sorts of problems. Among the negative effects deficit behavior, being very aggressive obesity and poor performances in school are main. Excessive TV viewing ( average of 4 hours or more) affects their imagination power, analytical skills, pre-reading skills, language skills etc. TV should not be allowed at all for the children under age of two. After that age they might be allowed to watch 2 hours of TV of educational programs and Entertainment like watching cartoons which have shown some good effects on children accroding to the experiences of the scientists.

Acturally, I don't think children should spent their time watching TV. Of course, besides the negative sides, children can also benifit from watching TV. But I perfer kids don't watch TV in spites of the benifits. As you say, children don't have the judegentment ability to what they should do and what they should not. So when they are watching TV, they don't they what they should learn and what they should't.Compare with TV,Books are much more better way for children to learn from. Content of the Books could be totally controlled by parents, on the other side, the content of programmes can not be controlled by parents. So books are much better. And the habit of reading are so helpful for a person's life. Another point is that, it's esaily to get addicted to watch TV programme, even for adults, not talking about kids. Kids must spent most of their time on study. If kid gets addicted to TV, you can imagin what happen.

I definately agree with you.The children these days are getting matured faster in a very small age itself which makes them take evil way or a wrong way. Adult programmes creates an interest in watching the movie more and they do so as they do not listen to the parents too. You can put a child lock in the adult channels or channels which u dont want your child to see, and keep the remote in your hands.may be it will work.

i am pretty careful what my daughters watch even though they are older (12 and 16). i usually sit with them and watch it if i think its sort of questionable and we discuss it. there is a lot of garbage out there to be sure.

I believe TV has added knowledge to our children. It is a good tool to learn alot of things that parents may not be able to explain or share to their young kids. Of course it has to be moderated especially to children who are younger who has all the make believe things crossing their minds every day. I make sure I watch the shows that my son watches in order to determine what is good and what should be avoided.

Hi guest.I think,Tv have positif and negatif side for everyone.Especially for children who could not diferentiate that it's real or no.But We could not reject technology. So,it's depend on us to use it.TV could be education media. There are many good program for children or torn on DVD education program But,we must concerned about how long time our children may watch it because TV lighting and change in fast time could be effect ayes and brain of children.

There are educational programs on TV that children can watch and learn different thing which are very entertaining. You need to monitor the other shows that they can watch. At night pick a show that is for children and watch it with them and if something happen that you do not want them to try late then tell them just because they did it on TV does not mean they are aloud to do that.

hello spring, My son is only two years old so I don't really know how far watching TV can influence a child. But one thing I know so far is that my son is learning alot from all the educational programmes that I am exposing him too. He is at the age where I can still control and limit to what he can watch. When he grows older, I am not sure how I am going to handle his tv time..

I'm still a teenager myself, but I can answer this question because I have a younger brother. Luckily, my falimy is very selective about what we can watch and cannot, so he is not exposed to any adult content on TV. Not yet. He usually only watches DVDs of movies and cartoons, so he doesn't have the danger of being exposed to the explicit things in the TV program. Butyes, he gets influenced by the movies and cartoons he watches. Everytime he watches a superhero type of movie or cartoon, he starts dashing around in the living room and act like a superman. When he was smaller, he really liked the disney movie about dinosaurs, and for days he was roaring all the time like a dinosaur! :D But other than those useless pretending, he actually learns a lot of the language from watching TV. Even though it gets annoying when he starts to speak in a "teenager accent" that he learned on TV, I think it still helped him build up vocabulary and such. So yes, I agree that children do get influenced by TV, and as long as what they are watching is harmless, they wouldn't get negatively influenced. At least I don't think so... XD

i think that tv is great, and not only children, but everyone learn something from it. But TV is often used in a wrong way. I live in Italy, and i don't watch TV, because there is only trash, i can't find anything usefull, only "veline" , soccer, musical programs. Only sometimes there is a good movie on it. How can we let oure child to see these things? I don't think that this TV can be useful to teach something to oure children.

watching tv can b good and bad for children...as children can learn from good tv programs while they can also learn to smoke and drink. while watching adult serials....and other stuffs...

I agree with you, they can actually learn from watching TV at least educational programs or documentaries. They actually like animal documentaries on Discovery and National Geographic. But, they also like these Disney shows where there are children getting into all sorts of trouble, or teenagers who are full of make-up and bare a lot of skin. These are the things I don't like because they look up to these kids on the show and try to imitate them (copying expressions is the worst for me like you suck, you're a geek, get off me, etc.). The most I can do is to often talk to them about these shows (stressing that there should be no malice whenever they see people kissing and the like) and limit their viewing of such because they pre-record all these shows and watch them over and over again that they know nearly all the lines by heart.

in my point of when you watch TV children must watch that time only, if you you leave and allow lonely watching TV then they will try to another channels and may be they will stop on that channels where some thing new and adult are love stories attract more when they watch and they become quick adult. this is harmful for your children's another idea if you have capability to purchase another TV then purchase separate for Children's and only selected programs for kids only to set on the Children TV then no problem children will alone watch the TV.
