I have a friend who cannot concentrate on his studies as a result his marks are getting lower and lower. He says that when he is thinking about something, say study his mind suddenly diverts to something else like sports and then to something else. He is very worried about it. What should I tell him to do?

I have this happen at times when I am overly stressed. To help myself in this I will just stop what I am doing and go for a bike ride. Fresh air will clear your head. Then you can think better. Also he might be drinking to much caffeine. And you can have this problem if you aren't eating enough.

You select a perfect space in your place where you can study and where no one can disturb you. Well don't study on bed, it better you sit on your study-room or study table. Its not to study for hours before exams, study for an hour or two is ok but study with full concentration. You can improve your concentration through meditation. It hardly takes 10-15 minutes. By meditation you can improve you concentration, memorising power and fell relax and more confident. You can also memorize your stuff by playing memory games, meditation and when you learn your stuff even half only you first try to speak that stuff without seeing that study stuff and write it. If you learn that write it at least twice. Or you can do that study loudly, by hearing a person can learn more faster than seeing the stuff and reading it. Most important thing is that study for your self. Don't feel it as burden.

This is a very common problem. Meditation is a very good cure but very few are willing to practice it. Atleast among students. So maybe he can do this easy thing. Touch the tip of thumb finger to the tip of index finger. He can practise this whenever and wherever possible with both hands or one hand. Suppose he is watching tv, he can just hold out both hands in that mudra, that is called a mudra and it will improve his concentration by a great deal. Atleast 20 minutes per day initially whenever possible would benefit a lot. Later on he can hold out that mudra for longer. And when he sits to study also he can keep one hand like that and use the other hand to turn pages etc. I gained my concentration like this. Even I used to have very poor concentration.
