did u know that the ACLU filed a suit to have all military cross-shaped headsones removed? And another suit to end prayer from the military completely,They're making great progress the navy chaplains can no longer mention Jesus'name in prayer thanks to our WRETCHED ACLU and our new administration. thats BULL SH**. please PRAY for our Military..... Lord our troops in your loving hands PROTECT them and they Protect us,Bless tham and there Families for there slefless acts they perform for is in our time of need. This is bogus and this needs to be stopped. Where is our freedom for what they perform for us everyday putting there lives on the line and loss of nemerous lives already, where is there gratitude ACLU for all this, need to be ashmed of themselves and pray hard there forgiven for they are selfish people want to do this to our military, us people need to take a stgand and grab our country back and run it they way it should be ran, honesty no decpetions, and lies, and they need to be bought up on charges if this is changed and if not,GOD please judge those harshly please. Freedom od Speech, the way it is! Our freedom to speak out and dont like it lump on it! Renee Renee

The establishment clause has been so twisted and distorted these days. It was written in to the constitution to protect religion from government, not to protect government from religion and it is being used these days to eliminate religion from public view, it is almost being used against itself by twisting it's meaning in that way. "congress shall make no law establishing religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" " This is all it says. In fact, what the ACLUis doing is forbidden by this clause, they are using it for the exact oposite purpose.

Just to recap a discussion I started a number of months ago on a related subject..... I decided to start this because of a few discussions that quoted the "seperation of church and state". There seems to be some confusion in this and I thought it should be cleared up. The term "seperation of church and state" actually stems from a letter from Thomas Jefferson to Bishop James Madison. The actual text from the constitution is worded as follows: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Often called the "Establishment clause", the portion of it mentioning religion dictates that congress shall not mandate a particular religion, establish an official national religion, nor may it create laws that prohibit the free exercise of one's religion. Though many of the founders weren't what we in the modern world call "true christians" they all held a belief in "God" or a god and had deep faith and belief. This is evident through out history, documents and letters of the founders. Though they did not wish to have an established religion, they were people of deep faith and this faith guided their every move. The whole premise of our constitution and declaration of independence is that our rights are granted to us by our creator...our "God" and not by our government, because our rights are something that are simply beyond the command of mere man and government.

Well, you know what? I certainly hope not. What is the problem here? The military men and women are putting their lives in jeopardy for our Freedom and it seems like they keep getting the shaft. From getting the proper medical attention to their benefits. Now they want to mess with the cross-shaped headstones?! This should not be allowed, and as for Prayers, that needs to be remained. Afterall, look at where this world is now and how it's going because of other religions from other countries putting up a stink about prayer in school. That was the beginning of all this baloney that keeps shoving GOD/JESUS under the carpet. Am I surprised?, No. We are losing lives everyday due to this war and what for? Our rights, laws, and traditions to be erased as if it does'nt exist. Our rights are slowly being taken away, and has for quite a few years, and people need to start standing up for what is right. Not for what society thinks is right or should change to fit society's thinking, but for what the good Lord has written is right. As it states right in and on our own gov't wall and money, "In God We Trust".

hi, I kn ow our militry men and women are forgotten for help when wounded in the war, have to fight for medical help and just is not right its unacceptable, totally agree with what u wrote. when they start taken the lords prayers and in god we trust is when judgement is coming and those behind it will be judged harshly, and good serves them right, greed, lies, and even alot of loss of lives do to a war that was initially lied to begin with , with busch the son. hope all ends well and no more of this crap. lets start treating our military men and women with the upmost respect as they deserve and to the families who lost there loved ones in this tragic war thats ongoing what 8 years now, give the the propers they deserve!!!!!!! This urban legend has been circulating for a long time now. The fact is, no chapter of the ACLU has ever tried to do either of these things. http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/cemetery.asp

I'm a retired NCO... this "story" has been circulating since my active duty days. Sorry, but rumor and urban legend are rampant in the military. I still remember the one about Clinton wanting to ban military chaplains. That didn't have any more truth to it than this one.

As far as I know...and thank you Ted for debunking this...all military cemetaries are uniform in look. Arlington National Cemetary contains all white headstones with rounded tops, although what symbols are engraved on them are at the discretion of the family. At the veteran's cemetary in Maryland where my husband's late wife is buried they don't allow headstones of any kind...they use ground level engraved plates.
