i have seen a lot of mini-laptops available in malls and computer stores over the past months. they are smaller and lighter than the regular laptops. does any one of you own a mini-laptop? how functional are these mini-laptops? what brands do you recommend? thanks.

Hey patofgold, if you are having a 10 1/2 inch Acer notebook, it is good as a mini laptop. Wonder why you want to go in for a much smaller version. Instead of going for a smaller version, you can go in for a IPhone, which is also very good.

First they are not called mini laptops instead they are called netbooks. This is currently I am using right now. It is been almost 5 months now I could see it's pretty much usable same as regular sized laptops do. This is an HP brand netbook I definitely recommend this. I have no problem at all with this netbook. The difference with regular laptops this one doesn't have a dvd or cd drive in it but i don't need it anyway as usb drives are cheap now a days and more convenient also than those drives.

oh okay. i thought calling them "mini laptops" is acceptable because i have read a lot of articles online that call them "mini laptops" (interchangeable with "netbooks" or "netbook mini laptops" or "mini notebooks"). thanks for the info.

I have a 15 inch Acer Lap top, which is quite heavy. So I am planning to go in for a mini lap top of 10 inches of Acer. I will either buy that or if the price of Apple IPhone goes down, I will go for it. I phone is good as a mini computer.

I just recently bought a netbook myself. It's a Toshiba one (seems like I don't use anything but that brand) and I'm liking it so far. It has the 10 inch screen which is perfect for me. The 9 inch one is just a bit too small and it hurts my eyes. My sister has one of those and it gives me a headache every time I use it. It's very light and easy to carry around. I can barely feel the weight ate all. The only downside with these is the fact that they don't have CD drives. That's something of a pain because most of my stuff is saved on CDs. I have to use my other laptop to get the data from the CDs and then transfer them onto a flash drive and then transfer them to my netbook. It's a long process and I'm seriously contemplating getting an external hard drive. But, I'd say that netbooks work just like the regular laptops. There's not really a lot of difference there. The only thing is the CD drive. As for brand, I'm a bit biased towards Toshiba since I am most familiar with that one. But the Acer Aspire netbooks are good too. They are also a bit cheaper so that might sway you.

Mini laptops are bit bigger than palm tops. And comfortable for business executives while they engaged with presentations. And also who looking for lighter waited pc's and easy carry system, mini is good choice for them. You may not get all the features, but compatibility makes you stress free. I am using HP mini series autom processor laptop. Its good to me. And all my business presentations became more easier after getting this kind of laptops.

I own a netbook. I have the HP Mini. I think netbooks are awesome. I actually have a notebook as well as a netbook. I bought the netbook just a few months ago. If you travel a lot and your primary work on the PC is either using the net or doing light processing tasks (for instance, I do a lot of article writing when I am offline), then netbooks are really great. Its so bulky to carry around a notebook. This little thing fits inside my handbag.LOL. I love it! One negative of a netbook, is that if you work for too long on them, they may strain your eyes. This is because the screen size is small. Hence, everything else that appears on the screen looks smaller. But I have a work around for this. When I am working, I zoom into everything, so that my eyes don't get strained.
