Copenhagen is indeed buzzing as it is holding the meeting that will decide which country will be hosting the summer Olympics in 2016. So, which country do you think will get to host the 2016 Games? Which country would you hope will get the honor to host? Chicago, USA? Rio de Janeiro, Brazil? Madrid, Spain? Or, Tokyo, Japan? As for me, I would really hope that Brazil will be awarded this time as the Games had never been hosted in a South American country. I just felt Brazil has indeed come a long way and proven a worthy candidate to host the Games for 2016. It will indeed be a keen competition and I even heard that President Obama will be attending and making an effort speech for the Games to be hosted in Chicago, USA. Let's see how things will develop, but I would really love to hear what you think and hope here. So, feel free to say whatever is on your minds. It'll probably go to Rio as Madrid is a possible target for ETA terrorist attacks so this time Rio can have the chance to bankrupt it'self in putting on this monumental waste of money. Rio has some of the biggest slums in the world, and I think that it's disgusting that they should even consider spending huge amounts of money on something like this when the country still has huge social problems.

Sure it'll be spectacular. And I'm sure that the spectacle will take the minds of the Rio underclass off their problems for a few days, and some of them might even make some money out of it by fleecing the thousands of people who come to watch it. But when it's all over, they'll be back to the grinding poverty that's normal for them. In short, I believe that the millions that will be spent on it will be much better spent elsewhere. The London affair is already more than three times over budget and it's likely to be more so by the time that it all gets going. By the time that 2016 rolls round, Rio may regret winning.

jwfarrimond, I feel that the terrorists issues can be resolved by having tighter security in placed in Spain. While, Brazil may have the biggest slums in the world, however, if you look the other way, hosting the Games may generate solutions for these economic problems. Anyway, 2016 Games has been awarded to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and I believe that it will be spectacular as it will be the first time Olympics is going to South America.

I have never known that the Olympics has never been held in South America yet. If so, I also agree that the Olympics 2016 is going to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Spain, Japan and USA already held the Olympics before. And I think USA has held it so many times already. I think it is better to give more chances to other countries, especially those never held it before. The Olympics shall be a global activity, and I think it is good for the developing countries to be much more active in it. I love China

youless, Like you, I feel that if Brazil is being awarded, it is definitely fair. I agree that USA had hosted quite a fair bit already and it would just be injustice if 2016 is awarded to them. Madrid, Spain is the other nation that I am in favor of, but I wonder if the recent economic crisis could be a deterrent for them. As you would have seen just how massive the preparation was for the 2008 Beijing Games, it would be quite a task for Spain if they are badly hit by this economic crisis.
