typhoons hit Philippines, vietnam and other asian countries and now are having so much problem dealing with it. and now typhoon PEPENG our 2nd Typhoon is here already inside our area of responsibility here in the Philippines! - we are already having strong rainfalls now here in Mindanao, the third big island of Philippines. while in Samoa island is hit by the tsunami and Indonesia have hit by an earthquake. what is happening to this Asia countries? why this has to happened? i am quite afraid and not knowing what to think. i do not even want to sleep. all i think about was the recent disaster in Luzon. Lets us all pray for our family, friends and to all people who have been damage, hit and part of the calamity we are all have now. jhelai

I pray for everyone in those countries as I myself am from Vietnam. However, to answer your question as to why all of it is happening to those countries, put simply, those countries are in a bad location. The combination of moisture in the air(humidity) and warm seas meeting cold oceans makes those countries very prone to tropical storms that can escalate into full scale typhoons (hurricanes). Also if I'm not mistaken those countries are also on the border of the Pacific Ring of Fire which is where the plates of the earth's crust meet each other. This is the reason for all the earthquakes that tend to plague the area.

u must be right. on tv earlier, they explained that it has something to do with the climate and temperature, etc. (that i could not readily grasp because that was too technical for my small brain, lol). let us not think of any other things to pollute our minds about the reason why calamities are now hitting the asian countries. in effect, let us all pray together and thank Him that we are still safe and together we hope for a bright tomorrow after all these things.

Yeah, it's really not a very good news that i like to hear. I'm living in Indonesia and i really hope that the casualties and the disaster is going to stop in asian countries. It's really sad because not much we can do, and the only thing we can do as human is only praying and helping people that survive from the disaster.

I sensed the earthquake in my place too, but luckily there's no casualties and not much destruction like the other area that have worse condition. From my place it's pretty far from the center of the earthquake and other area that was destroyed.

Well it is a mixture of things. It can depend on your general weather conditions, here int eh UK you don't see Tsunamis or Tornados (although) there was one in England back in about 1981. It can depends on where your contry is on the tectonic plates where, you might be more likely to have earthquakes, and they if, are centered more nearer the sea or ocean, are more likely to cause Tsunami's. Its not because your asian, although the continent is the biggest.

Unfortunately it is one of the consiquences of being a resident of planet earth. This is an active planet with all sorts of things going on all the time. It does seem to be the south pacifics turn the last few weeks though doesn't it. First let me offer my condolnces and prayers to you and your country. I pray for your well being and safety, take care and be safe. Here in the u.s. we have our share of natural disasters to deal with too. 90% of the tornadoes that ocure on earth happen here in the U.S. and 80% of those occur in one are in the mid-west of our country, though we have had some pretty big ones up in new england where I live, the damage these things do is unreal, the have litteraly wiped entire counties off the map in minutes. If one lives on the gulf coast or the east cost they are subject to hurricains (remember Katrina?) If you live on the west coast, it is very earthquake prone, a number of them have almost destroyed certain cities out there. Up in the north west of the country we have a seriese of volcanoes, one blew a number of years ago, Mt. St. Hellens, it did a lot of damage and killed a lot of poeple, another one up in Alaska has erupted a few times and caused all sorts of mayhem. As if that weren't bad enough, right smack in the middle of my country sits the largest most lethal volcanoe on earth, yellowstone national park. This is a dormat "super" volcano that has been dormant for 10's of thousands of years, it isn't a matter of IF it erupts again it's a matter of WHEN and when it does, it is big enough to litteraly eliminate 2/3 of my country.

Actually, I live on the north east coast, thousands of miles from yellowstone, but I don't think it will make much difference, when it goes, it will be a global disaster.

yes! i remember Typhonn Katrina my friend. that brings alot of bad memories for us as well. that is so devastating and many lost lives and loved ones from that catastrophe. and you do live near yellowstone national park? oh! i have heard about it through discovery and many other stations that helps me know more about that volcano. and yes i know that when it erupts it would eliminate a lot of your country. let us just hope and pray that it wont be that bad. thanks friend. i am so happy of your information. jhelai

It could be that we are just reaping the rewards of our own doing. There is too much Carbon emissions from our cars. We cut trees and did not make an effort to plant again another one. I was able to watch one time over CNN about their eco-solutions. They encourage their students to plan even a single tree. Now, after 5 years, the trees have really grown. One thing that we should also learn is to know how to segregate our trash and properly dispose them.

thatis what i also like our governemtn would still impose but unfortuanlty many politicians are just so greedy for their own welfare... and now look at what happened!!! life is too short and to care more for the environment would be the very important thing we must always do. plant more tress, segregate well, watch for those black emissions from plants and to our cars. they are making our ozone more badly in condition. let us help each other!!! and make this planet a better place to live in. jhelai

I think we don't need to question all of this happenings. It's a call of nature because we people forget to value our mother nature. We are too dependent to our nature to the extent of abusing it. We must put in mind that we gain our living through to our mother nature to sustain for our daily needs. What we should have to do now is try to preserve our Monther Nature. This things happen to awaken us to do something and realize that we are too abusive.

Well these are what we call as natural calamaites that happen every now and then on places like ours. I think mother nature's way of telling us that we should respect her or else meet her lash out when we don't do much to protect our environment.

It's nothing personal, mother earth is just doing her thing and you happen to live where that is happening. As long as humans insist in living where these things happen they will, there is nothing you can do to change Mother earth.

Lots of factors contributed to natural calamities like what you mentioned, but the most common reason to all of these disasters is the worsening condition of global warming. When the atmosphere released too much heat, the earth increases its tendency to be irregular in rotation so the common result is the natural calamities. We cannot prevent global warming because the industrialization and high technology era are progressing, but we can help prevent the condition from worsening by being vigilant and take extra care of our surroundings.

What's happening now is the effect of natural weapons taking place. Its hard to accept that the bible's words are starting to come true if you take those words literally. Now, its a big challenge for us to continue to help mother nature, save what we need to save. We also need to take the map of building something to prevent future events. With these disasters, people must again to embrace God in their hearts and minds. This may be the start of what is something big to happen in the future. We don't know but we must be ready. And one of the weapon you only have with no cost is prayer.

I offer my prayers to all those who have been affected by the recent floods and the typhoons. As rightly pointed out by some posters before me one thing is that you are living in an area where such occurrences are frequent and are aided by the geography- like being in an earthquake prone zone, or in land out in the sea where there are no patterns to break the tunamis to romp in. This is the Scientific side of it. Well, sometimes knowing the Scientific Reason is only partly useful may be use an early wanrning to run to safety and may be secure most of your possessions. All that is only protection. We need a science or technology that works at least the certainty of medicines combating disease. But weather has always eluded man. With the advent of Supercomputers to day the predictions of the timing and directios of typhoons, hurricanes, etc have become more acurate. But nothing as yet can be done to mitigate the effect of their force. Like if way could be found to harness their enrgy and make them serve a useful purpose then a great advancement has been made.Hence sometimes other than prayers nothing much can be done. One another way of looking at these is Nature's way of balancing out overpopulation and pressure on resources. Could it have been programmed into the weather of our Earth, to bring about such movements as to balance out the demand on resources by bringing in such devastating, natural calmities and decimation of the food-demanding population(all living beings) of the earth. If you are not averse to a religious view, then this could be viwed as, God's way of balancing the net good and bad in the world, without specifically saying where the good or bad is happening.

Its a way how nature gets its revenge on us.. killing many lives, wiping out our homes, buildings...creating it back the way it should be.. We just can't control it,, the only way is to prepare and be ready for it. I guess one factor to this changes is due to global warming. The one big reason for this natural disasters to occur more than the usual appearances. I really hope this next typhoon that will hit our country will not be as tragic as what Ondoy has done. Let us pray together and hope we will all be ok..

Climate change explains why such extraordinary calamaties are now happening not only in Asian countries but also to all parts of the world. Be not afraid. In its religious side there are reasons why God allow such things to happen. In its political part the people in government are put into test how they would respond to such calamities. In its human aspect we are reminded how we have destroyed our environment.Calamities are the great equalizer. They do not spare any, be rich or poor all could fall victims. The good part of it makes the people unite under one reason to lend a helping hand.

Those things happen to make people realize of what they have done with the mother earth. It is the nature's way of responding to the cruelness of mankind. but despite of all those things people still don't learn. that's why nature keeps on reminding us... in many ways.

The Earth is a Living Planet..Change on it's surface and beneath the oceans is going on each and every day,but to our senses so slowly that we don't usually realise it..until at times like these when tectonic and volcanic activity causes earthquakes,Tsunamis, and Eruptions in sensitive places around us..and then it's news when hundreds and thousands of People living there live or die because of where they chose to make their home and have no protection against what Nature is capable of..All most can do is support the relief workers and Keep those affected in thoughts and Prayers..Stay Safe,Friend!

I've never experienced anything of that magnitude, so I can't imagine what you're going through. I sometimes fall asleep before I've said my prayers, but I'll try to remember you and the area in my prayers.

My heart goes out to all who live in such regions. Stay safe and pray hard! For us who live in other countries, if we haven't already done so now is the time to step up and find organizations where we can contribute for these folks. Red Cross is the only one I can think of off hand. Does anybody know of others? Often there will be drives for food, clothing, blankets, and other necessities to help those who have lost so much. I have not heard of any yet.

I think if you want a perfect answer for this question you need to read the last chapter of The Bible namely the Revelation written by Patmos John.God gives him all end time visions and you can exactly make out why all these natural calamities are happening on this planet. If you are a christian you can guess but if you are not why not just read the last chapter, ask any of your christian friends to give you a Bible.
