Is God Dead?

Let me point out first that I personally don't believe that he or she is dead. But I feel that a shift in our perception of him/her is mighty necessary. I believe he/she is beyond our grasp. Our minds can only deal with opposites, it's either 'dead' or 'alive', and since we can't see beyond that it has to be one or the other. Let me give you another example, we can either imagine a single unit (1) or more units (more than 1). And here we go , since our minds can't visualize anyhting other than that, we, in our human arrogance, say that this is so, it's eiher 1 or more, dead or alive. We need a third option. It's impossible to prove that God is dead OR alive. I believe that when dealing with a question like that, we have to first of all admit our limited way of thinking, accept that the paradigms we have at our repertoire are very, very limited indeed. Can you experience God? I believe yes, but it takes work, through prayer or meditation. Does that constitute proof? Definitely not, one way or the other. I'd just like to hear some arguments hear from people who consider themselves atheists (and I say that with all respect.) How can you prove that something does NOT exist. And dear fundamentalists, please stay away from this post, I honestly don't want to be clubbed by the 'truth'.

I was forced to be Christian in early primary school, but I grew out of God just as I grew out of Santa Clause. When I was in primary school, you had to pray in assembly (when the whole school got together in the morning) and if you didn't you were punished. When I was about 7 I realised what it really was and a teacher actually hit me in an argument about indocrination (it wasn't that long ago - hitting kids wasn't allowed at this point). I don't have a massive problem with actual religion, but I don't like indocrination at all. I think it is really "evil" to tell little kids what to believe. I don't like religion as a collective thing either, although I don't have a massive problem with it like I said, but every person who calls themselves religious makes it a little bit more acceptable for faith healers to exist, for crusades to happen and for indoctrination to occur. Just my thoughts... I am open to all beliefs and can have an open minded discussion about it all.

Thanks for responding, Tantrums. In my opinion as far as indoctrination is concerned, every child is subject to it anyways, it's called education. Good Luck.
