Do you worry?

Most people worry sometimes, but there are some who carry it to the extreme, seeing things that aren't there and always imagining the worst possible outcome. What is worry, is it just negative thinking carried too far? How can one overcome worry? What suggestions do you have?

I have got to be the worst worrier of all time. I always espect the worst and hope for the best. That way I don`t have far to fall. I worry about my two boys every day. Especially when they are not at home. I worry about my hubbys drinking causing him to have another pancreatitis attack. I worry abut our bills. I don`t bug people with it though. Just my hubby and kids. It drives me nuts sometimes but I can`t help it either.

Hi bitoffun, Thank you for commenting and you sound like my wife. She too is a big worrier and always says she can't help it. I only worry over big things and then I tern things over to a higher power, knowing that whatever happens will be right. Blessings.

Is okay to be concern about certain things ,but when we take it to an extreme it becomes a disease. Those people can really drive anybody crazy. I know somebody just like that ,and I stay away from her. LOL!

I am probably one of the world's worst worriers, in actual fact I will worry about an event that hasn't even taken place, with most people it's a case of crossing the bridge when they come to it, but not me! I guess it's because I am a very negative person and I automatically predict things will go wrong for me and only for me. Worry makes me have problems in sleeping, I worry over the most minutae of things that others would shrug off in an instant but not me. I guess it could be hereditary as my mum worries constantly too! I've always been a worrier, and it's habit forming, I've tried many ways to stop worrying but I can't it's like I'm stuck with it, it's like it's part of my personality. I worry that people won't like me, I worry about what other people think of me, but I guess that is more to do with lack of self esteem, I think negativity, lack of self esteem, anxiety issues all relate to that horrid word Worry!

Hi wolfie, Thank you for sharing and I know it has to be very difficult for you. My mother was a terrible worrier and so is my wife. Have you read any books on positive thinking? I've seen it work wonders for people. There are also Positive Thinkers Clubs in some cities. You really need to be around positive people. Some people have sought out doctors who use hypnosis and have gotten help. perhaps I can leave you with one hopeful thought, my mother, for some reason, seemed to have worried less as she got older, I hope the same happens with you. Blessings.

I only worry about the things that I can predict, likfe if my husband is about to do something stupid, like try and carry a big box of stuff down a flight of stairs when I know he's going to drop the damn thing. LOL That happenedd last year, and he did. However, just regular every day things, I really don't worry about.

I got a letter last Friday about something that really needed to be taken care of. And of course it would come on a Friday afternoon, when I couldn't do anything until the following Monday. So I was very anxious, and worried. To get my mind off of it and to put it in persepctive, I started singing a hymn (Amazing Grace, 'Tis so Sweet to Trust in Jesus) every time I started thinking about it. I'll tell ya, I was singing a lot! But it did make me feel better.

Worry is a habit, when you stop and think about it, it makes no sense, you can change nothing by worrying about it, it's just a waste of energy, a way an undirected mind expels excess energy. You had the ability to redirect this wayward mind. It only takes intention, the most simple thing to do is to turn the problem over to a higher power Or to just keep repeating what will be will be and then do something constructive, any type of activity will do, wash the floor, walk a couple of miles and enjoy the outsides, notice everything you can. Any of this will redirect the mind. I do a puzzle or read a book that will take me away from what ever the worry is about. You must be proactive to conquer this habit.

Hi savypat, That is an excellent response, thank you. Doing something constructive is especially helpful. I'm reminded of my mother who was a terrible worrier and how she once used that method. One time my wife and I along with my sister and her husband were out of town for a wedding and mom was at home with our three kids. We left in the morning to return home, a two-three hour drive in good weather but on the way encountered an unexpected snowstorm. As we plowed along we saw cars off the road on both sides. This was before cell phones became popular and mom had no way of getting in touch with us. She decided to cook one of her special dishes that everyone loved, so we could all eat together when we reached home. Well, we made it without any mishap, but the great thing was that cooking saved her from much of the worry that would have upset her.
