Do you have an obsession or an addiction?

I am obsessed with anything relating to true crime - books, magazines, movies, web sites, you name it, and I am there. I enjoy Ann Rule, Dominick Dunne, trutv, and court tv, among others. A few months ago I discovered an online forum called Web Sleuths. This site discusses anything/everything related to real life missing/abducted children cases. They highlight cases currently in the news which only peaks my interest further. How about you? Do you have an obsession or an addiction? Or do you prefer to call it a hobby?

Hi Malamar. Well, since I am a smoker, it stands to reason I must be addicted to nicotine...and then the habit in general, as well. Yucky, but true. Chocolate. Yum! Computer...obsessed sometimes, but not addicted as this past summer, I did very well without it for 10 days. The only worry was getting my writing done, but I actually enjoyed the break. I am "addicted" to things of nature....the sky, rocks, mountains...endlessly fascinating. I'd hate not to be able to look outdoors or go outdoors every single day. I'm sure there's more, but...I'm tired lol. Karen

Hi Peaceful, wow ten days away from your computer? I am not completely sure I could accomplish that. Maybe we could start a new "ten" step program, or something. Being outdoors is a fav of mine as well, isn't that why they invented laptops? Ciggies and chocolate? Not so good, I am thinking. Hope you had a good rest and don't add sleeping to your list of obsessions! You take care now.

I went nuts on 3 days without my internet. Wow! I would not have any hair left if it was 10 days. :o)

I am obsessed, better called addicted to computer. I don't know why. It attracts me like an electro magnet. Whenever I got a scope to free myself I jumps to my sit, either doing programs, evaluating softwares or justing playing the games, surfing the internet or simply mylotting.

Hi think_twice, it is good to meet you. Computers really are addictive, aren't they? I wonder how many free hours I would have each day if someone took the computer away from me?

Hi Irene, good to "meet" you. Ah, but shopping can be addicting too! I have never been much of a shopper, I just run in, grab what I need and get the heck out. I have always collected books but I don't often pay full price for them, I am too cheap! I wait for sales, go to used bookstores, garage sales, and that sort of thing. I have quite a few movies too. I don't watch television, but I do love a good movie once in a while.

Well, I surely can't tell you how to get football out of your head - LOL What I can tell you is a football addiction can keep you single for a very long time. Although, at your age, that is probably a very good thing!

Hello arpit_taran, good to "meet" you also! I think maybe I spend a little too much time on my computer as well. I use the computer at work, for my schooling, and for fun like Mylot. All in all, it adds up to a lot of hours per day.

Rather inconvenient, you say? I would be scared out of my wits; well what wits I have left, that is. I like analyzing true crime, but the really scary movies...well, they uhm, scare me!

hmmm, my hobby I guess would be my addictions/obsessions!! as it is I am totally addicted to reading romance books, historical, paranormal, romance. I am addicted to mt.dew and really I am trying to cut that back, although I happen to have a bottle right here with me... I am obsessed with learning new things on the computer and being here at mylot, and my money sites since I have started earning online this year and I am researching ways to possibly start my own online business... I love spending time with my kids so I love being a full time mom, which is another reason I want to work at home/online so that I can revolve my time around them and still be able to make money and be a better mom for them. so yeah, I have just a few minor addictions/obsessions just to name a few!! happy mylotting!!

Oh I forgot about romance books. The harlequins are good ones. Of course, a bit more detailed than I like, at times, but are written very well. I watch soap operas, too. I even watch them online, and if I miss a day of watching them, especially "Days of Our Lives", I think about it a lot. lol :o) Mary-Anne

Good morning brd. Kudo's to you for spending time with the kids AND for earning/learning online - both very admirable past times. Romance and historical novels have never been able to hold my attention for very long - darn, does that means we won't be swapping books anytime soon? I have read many interesting paranormal books, but do not study it in any real depth. I wish every mom could work online and be able to stay home with their children. That would be so great for moms and kids alike!

Hi Malamar, I enjoy reading Ann Rule too. I feel so sorry and sad for the families of the victims, especially for the ones without closure. Hopefully the killers have a bad ending, and the crimes are solved. Feel so sad that people can just get away with killing. The library does not have much books by Ann Rule. I hope they can buy more books on true crime. It's better reading than the fiction. I dont consider myself an addict to true crime. In fact, I only admit to being a coffee addict.

Ah yes, the first step to healing addiction is admitting it! Coffee, hmm.... I think you'll be okay with the coffee habit. Isn't it frustrating when your library doesn't have a good selection of books you enjoy? It really bugs me, but I am lucky enough to be able to visit several different libraries, so I am usually able to get what I want. Have a good day; have a cup of coffee, relax.....

You can call it what you want but I love handsome men and movies. Men are such father figures and they dress well; and movies provide entertainment. In school, I had crushes on some of my men teacher. Thy were so debonair! I watch movies every week. I think I am a movie freak!

I can say that i am addicted(but not obsessed) to david cook. My day would't be complete if i can't get to watch him in youtube. Even if i saw his performances in youtube so many times i just watch him over and over and sometimes my husband would really get mad...maybe he's jealous.. what do you think???

Humblest apoligies, but I am not 100% sure who David Cook is. Is this the guy on American Idol? I don't watch that show but I did catch the highlights on msn. Either way, no matter who he is, don't let hubby get mad or jealous. No reason to have negative feeling towards a stranger, is there?

I am addicted to writing articles online to make money, especially the site called ehow.com. I am addicted to researching topcis on the internet and the more time I spend on mylot, I find myself getting addicted, but it is also a joy to respond to discussions and start discussions as well.

Well currently my obsession/addiction has to be writing. I swear I start a new story idea at least once a day. Mind you once that day is over I tend to forget where I was going and I end up starting a new one... Or I get to working on two at once and totally forget about the others that I'm near finishing.

That is a problem for many of us. Lots of great ideas that we get started on, only to have them fall by the wayside when the next idea takes all our attention. The hardest part of writing, for me at least, is to stay focused and bring at least at one idea to completion. I couldn't do it though, so I compromised by just writing an article and posting it on a writing site. Maybe someday I will learn to stay focused, but at this point in time, I highly doubt it! - LOL
