I promise my niece today to take her to DMV to do the extention for her Driver License. She told me last night, she will make sure that she will look good for her picture for her new driver license. Her first picture on her driver license make her look silly, with one of her eyes half close. And believe me me she wasn't happy at all. LOL... So how's your picture look like on your ID card or driver license. Are you happy with it? I know a lot of people usually 'not so happy' ...

I have never had a photo I.D. card of any kind that I was pleased you. I would always refer to these photos as prison pictures. I could have twenty retakes and still not be happy.

To tell you the truth, I don't satisfy with most of my photos, I don't happy the picture on my college graduation certificate, passport, identity card... I think I look more prettire than what I look at the photos. But no matter what, people look the real you, pictures on those certificates and license are not that important to me. I just unhappy for a moment, and then forget them...

I am definitely happy with my pictures in my ID cards because it is a product of my time and effort which I have exerted in order to achieve such endeavor. I am happy because it is my personality that is depicted in my IDs.

In my country India, there is something called a Voter's Identity Card. For this the Government arranged for photos to be taken digitally and imbibed into the Cards. Most of these photos however looked like those of unclaimed corpses in the morgue, -there is no way you can identify yourself in these black and white photos. This is regarded as the premium identity proof in all official cases. How on Earth people are identified through these cards is a mystery.

I have noticed that many people, especially women, are highly critical of photos (any photos) of themselves. Rarely do you find anyone admitting that a photo is a good likeness or portrait (there is a subtle difference between a likeness and a portrait). Even if they have something good to say about it, they often qualify it by giving some excuse or other that makes the photo something of a 'special case'. What they are really saying is that 'this photo may look a little like me but it's not me!' I have come to the conclusion that, although most of us are not superstitious (and would laugh at the very suggestion), there is still the lingering subconscious feeling that the camera, especially, is an 'evil eye' that can take part of our soul away. I am a great believer in the 'hidden subconscious' - things that we believe without realising it somewhere in our deep subconscious and which often are quite different to what we profess to believe. Images of individuals have always been thought of as somehow potent. They are used in Voodoo and in other magical culures as if they were the actual person and representations of people (and animals) are banned in Islamic religious art. Early Christian religious art goes the other way: images of Christ and the Saints have been thought of as being very potent - almost as if they contain the life and breath of the person represented. The official line, of course, is that these are just images but why do icons and statues of the saints have so important a place in Orthodox and Catholic churches, especially? I could go on but this is a discussion about personal images, not religion! My point is that many people, even those who are not religious, have a 'special' and somewhat uncomfortable feeling about certain images of themselves - particularly of their face. Passport photos and the like are not supposed to be portraits. We mustn't smile and we must face the lens directly so that all our features are visible. They are not meant to make us look attractive (and, due to the lighting that is used and the artificial attitude that they impose on us, they succeed admirably!) We often feel and look like criminals in our passport or DL photos - the only difference is that we aren't asked to hold a prison number up under our faces and we don't have to have a side view taken! These days, computer technology is supposed to be able to compare a passport photo with another photo and to be able to say with some certainty whether it's the same person or not! I sometimes wear a beard and sometimes not, yet my photo, which was taken some time ago, shows me with a full beard and is still acceptable. The photos on my DL and on my passport were taken at different times and I have different states of growth of facial hair in each. Neither are a specially good likeness, in my view, but I'm quite happy to let people laugh at them - perhaps my particular subconscious way of saying 'It's not really me!'

Actually my driver's license photo is one of the best ID photos I have. My hair is completely flat, but altogether I look alright -- no blemishes, no funny eyebrows, no half closed eyes. My passport photo on the other hand -- Ugh. The studio didn't give me a chance to ok my photo before they processed it because they were so busy, and when I got it back, I almost contemplated going back and requesting a retake. I look like a serial killer. When I thought I'd lost mine last month and got new pictures taken, just in case, that picture was much nicer and I wish I could swap it for my old one.

Oh my good. That's the good one, look like a serial killer. By the way, when your passport expires? I think that's the only time you can change the pictures.

- No I am not happy at all with my driving licence photo! I was told I was not to smile and look straight into the camera. The colouring is awful and I think I look like a corpse! - Derek

I am not at all happy with my driving license picture because it was taken from a bad quality camera and I did not even know if they are going to take my picture at that day. Sadly there are no provision for changing your picture in your license card .

I can say whenever I need to take pictures for the whatever ID cards, it always come out ugly... I either look weird or my face looks relaly wide or I have unbalanced eyebrows... I never liked my ID pictures; I remember when I turned 18 years old, I needed to go do the ID card again, it gave us 3 times to take the picture, I was not satisfied about the picture for all 3 times but I had to pick one so it was ugly anyway...

Well, be if ever so humble..and a horrific blow to the ego, I must admit that the silly lookin' fella in the photo has an uncanny resemblence to me..oh well..Reality bites sometimes, but that's all there is. My work id looks a bit stranger as I balanced on bad knees while squatting 6' 8 1/2" of me into a 6" nothin' space, while smiling and trying not to look like I'm falling back into the background and under any sort of strain... ENJOY!

We usually are not. Believe me, the photos on all our official documents seems real bad. If, only we have another chance to retake the photos. For the Malaysian Mycard, it is take by the government department and you have to take it as it is. Even my student cards in days of your were not good looking.

hi there! not happy with it. had my stuff (laptop, PDA, ID wallet, money, books) all in one bag last year. it was like a one-stop shop for the culprit when my bag was stolen. so requesting for the reissuance of my driver's license along with other government IDs is a total hassle for me. wasnt recovered from the mixed emotions of frustrations and anger for my loss, so probably my mood reflected on the picture. waaaah! will have to carry it til it expires! happy mylotting! :)
