Converting movie formats and recording on DVD for normal viewing

I am using convert x to dvd to convet the movie format and then using my DVD recorder on the computer to record it. My problem is that some movies turn out fine but others seem to have spots in it that freeze up. I try not to run any other programs while I am converting the movie or recording it but I need to narrow down my problem. Some movies have really bad spots where they freeze completely up. These problems are normally after the middle of the movie, near the end. I don't know if it's my DVD player (which I doubt, since it works fine most of the time although it's not an expensive model.) or my DVD writer on the computer. I am running a Dell 1.8 cpu with 1 gig ram and windows xp. The DVD writer is an older one (probably one of the first to come out and it is an LG brand. If anyone knows what might be causing my problem, I would greatly appreciate any advice. I would rather replace the DVD drive than have to get an new computer. I think that mine is fast enough to do what I am asking; I just think that there is a problem somewhere that I can't pin down and I can't afford to just start buying things without being pretty sure that it is the problem. Maybe it is the software that I am using to convert the movie formats but because the bad spots are near the end of the movies, it tends to make me wonder it it isn't the DVD drive on the computer slowing down or as I say getting tired near the end of the recordings. Whatever it is, I hope someone may have had this problem before and can give me some advice. Thank you in advance for your responses and thanks for mylot, it's a great place!

I think the problem is your burning software or burner problem. You can change a burning software. I recommend to you a : Nero 9 Burner to maintain a smooth operation. May be improved, this is my personal opinion. I hope I can help you.^_^

I think that you are right. I am currently using "convert x to DVD" and as soon as it is finished converting the format it pop up with a box to burn to the disc; I assume using it's own software to interact with my DVD burner. Do you have any other recommendations besides Nero?

I also use ConvertXtoDVD and I've yet to run into any problems. I'm not saying it's not your problem, but for me it has been fine. Hmm... I've heard good and bad things about Nero. I figure since ConvertXtoDVD appears to be working just fine, I don't plan on getting rid of it. But I'm guessing they all have their ups and downs, and I bet it's even worse when you add what the computer's specs are to it all! Ah, technology!
