I have had a few Indian friends. One friend in particular we could of been best friends but I moved away. The one thing I have learnt just this past week is that there are way more born again Christians in India then I ever thought possible. I have learnt through the last few years that I enjoy eating more Indian dishes besides samosas. You will find me eating Indian Cuisine at the food court when on a shopping trip tot he mall. What about you? What other cultures have you had an experience with?

Hi,coffee,Thank you for having some idea on Indian food.Other than samosa, there are so many range of snacks, where we can't find any where.Apart from food, here the main culture i like is Joint families-One should get security feeling at any point of time for both financial and personal. This is the best example-in the recent times we have financial crisis all over the world, but we don't know the feelings of joblessness or financial problems to lead life, because we are joint families,we have support of patents,brothers,sisters....Have a nice time.

I forgot to mention how I love that families stick together in my comment to you. I really love that about your culture. I hope your culture never changes in that way. I was wondering what do you think if a grown child does not feel like working and just lets the rest of the family support him or her while they sleep a lot and hang out with friends? How would you deal with it?

Hi,coffee,There are so many people in Indian society having the characters which you mentioned. But those are in general belongs to higher income group or born with silver spoon. So that phase is only for short period and once they are getting around 25-30 age ,they automatically change their attitudes by the influence of Grand father..elders,parents...
The unique thing regarding wealth in India,Son got rights on the income of Grand parents and parents. So every parent wants to earn maximum for their children.
Happy mylotting.

Baluyadav-
What I know is from my limited friendship with a girl in highschool, and from my husband who has studied a lot of the religious aspect of India.
I know that Hinduism is the main religion, and the cow is still considered sacred to all Hindus. I know about the Vedas, but am still working through reading them along with the Upanishads. I know that there is still a class system in India despite their freedom.
My friend was in an arranged marriage even though she was from the USA. She was to marry a doctor from India when she was done with highschool. From what I saw on a special on the discovery channel not all marriages are arranged any more, but some are. I did like what I saw in regard to the Indian wedding. It's very festive.
I know that in some of the stricter areas, just from what I saw on a program about India, the women eat after the men and off the same mat. (Personally, that's how it occurs here save the plate. I feed my children and husband first and I eat after they are done).
I am not sure about voting rights as I've not studied that. So I am not sure if women have the same rights to vote there now as men or if only men can vote.
I am always willing to learn more about your beautiful country. One day it is our hopes to live there for a time so my husband can study with a yogi and study the faith.
In terms of dress I own one saree and two salawars myself. The saree bodice was cut wrong though and I have yet to have it tailored to fit so I have yet to wear it. The salawars I wear through the summer months here because they are cooler.
Namaste-Anora

Hi,thank you Anora, for your deep knowledge on our culture.I had only word, god make you to visit India along with your family members. That time i surely attend and i will accompany in touring India.Hearty welcome.
Regarding voting men and women are equal in voting.
Woman eat after husbavnd is merely respect that they give,it is coming since old age,i too don't know how far it is correct. But now a days in cities all the family members eating at a time, that also give nice feelings.
Can i have a look on your photo when you wear saree, how well it suits you.Convey my wishes to all your family members and your indian friend also for making you such a information on Indian culture.Have anice time.

Hi,ice, that's true.I posted this mainly targeting other country members. But for us there are signals of drastic reduction in moral values, our traditions, customs in new generation.Every country people look to stabilize their social values and traditions.Bad thing
is we Indians want to follow others.Any how all thew best and have a nice time.
