A Total Waste of Money ...in my humble opinion

Olympic Flag - The Olympic Flag that flies with it's 5 rings flys over every modern Olympic Games

This question is probably not going to make me a very popular person today but I am going to ask it anyway! WHY on Earth was it Soooo "IMPORTANT" for President Barack Obama of the United States to fly to Copenhagen, Denmark...not to mention the First Lady also, to "help" put in a bid for the 2016 Olympics to be held in Chicago? IF they wanted someone of "Power" to be there then why was The First Lady Michelle Obama, not enough? The First Lady is Powerful in her Own Right isn't she? I don't know what it cost the First Lady to fly there on a separate jet but I do know that it cost Air Force One somewhere around $69,000 or $70,000, possibly more, per hour to fly. I would think that not only in these hard economic times the money could have been spent in possibly a better way...not to mention for a better cause, possibly a little thing like saving the World from being Nuked or something. Let's face it, if the World is Nuked Before 2016 then the money would have been wasted anyway... I'm just askin'...?

My guess is Obama will do anything to keep from doing the job he's supposed to be doing. I thought Bush was bad about taking vacations, etc. whenever the wind blew but Obama is far worse. He thinks this is just for kicks and giggles. Like it's some big 4 year long party.

Hi Irish! Well you may possibly be right and if so it is a shame, as the American people, (me included), had such high hopes after Former President Bush. I was talking to Hubby about this trip and told him it is amazing that after having to use two planes to get there, one for him and one for the First Lady, that he didn't commission another two to take his daughters also to speak up to the Olympic Committee! So having said that, I SUPPOSE it Could have been worse. Now you Know why I moved from the United States fifteen years ago, to get away from it all! I am Still American by birth, raising and I vote in every election, even though it cost me a fortune and takes me a day to get to Amsterdam and get back, I would Never give up my American Citizenship as I cherish that, and no matter who is in office, it is Still MY President, but that does not mean that I have to live under their "Direct Rule" daily as I did when I lived in the United States. I Love America as My Home Country, it is the politicians that I have problems with. Than you so much for your response and I hope you have a good week-end!

I knew what you meant to say. The funny thing is I've been so disillusioned with the US the past several years and now I'm fighting mad what's being done to our country. This isn't even all Obama's fault or even Bush's. Started long before that.

I feel the same way. It's bad enough Obama had to spend over 1.5 billion dollars on porculus, excuse me, stimulus bills that did actually nothing. Obama follows his own agenda and I'd have to thing that he thinks twice about nothing. He probably thought everyone over there in Denmark would love to see him, but it was a major turnoff. As you said, Michelle would have done just fine. Seeing how the US is in a huge debt right now, it's probably not a good idea to spend ***BILLIONS*** of taxpayer dollars hosting the Olympic Games.

Hi Doofenshmirtz! I agree I wouldn't think adding a few Billion More dollars to pay for the Olympic Games at this moment would be such a great idea and probably wouldn't make whoever did it very popular either! It always seems that politicians don't look at Finances quite the way that "normal" people do. But then again, if I had a wallet that was never empty I probably wouldn't worry about what I spent the money on either!! Thank you so much for responding and hope you enjoy myLot!

Greenie, Not only the two of them went but Oprah went as well!! All three in different jets. We are in a recession, or depression in my book, but they are not. I'm fed up with this new dictator we have. Sorry to be so harsh but the changes going on are not what the American people wanted. Of course he never specifically said what changes he planned to make. Just sayin... Leenie

Greenie, I think he's lied about a lot of things. But like you, I really hate Politics and politicians. They all seem to be corupt and greedy. There may be a few exceptions but very few. Hugsss Leenie

Hi Leenie! Well let's just hope that Oprah had enough money to pay for her own ticket and that the American people didn't have to foot her bill also, of course I am sure we had to buy her a meal or two though! I have been fed up with politics since I first learned what they were, it is a well known fact that I don't like politics or politicians as I think they are all a bunch of liars and crooks! You are right though, he never specifically said what the changes would be, so in That case, I suppose he couldn't be considered a liar!!

Seriously, what has OBAMA done since he was put in the driving seat as being President of the States. He has not lived up to the media hype and billing that was tagged on his head. And now?? going for the Olympics totally not necessary? Is it. Tell him to concentrate on his own work for being the President. Seriously I know it is good for the tourism in America and good for commercial reasons. But there are other things that should be priority over this.

I suppose one could argue the point that since Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, the President of Brazil, deemed it necessary to go to Copenhagen to make a personal push for Rio, that President Obama just followed suit, but I agree with you, I think there are a lot of other things that should take priority in this day and time than who gets to host the Olympics in 2016. Thank you very much for your response!
