I have a laptop and I place my fingers on the home keys which are a, s, d, f, g, h, j, k and l. Then I move my fingers in the way that typists use the only difference is I have to look at the keyboard for some of the time. I find it challenging to type one handed and it is very difficult to type with just one finger.

Till one year ago I used just 2/3 fingers for typing anything and everything.. But then I learned touch typing [placing 10 fingers on home row - asdfghjkl; ] at home, with the help of a typing tutor.. It was pretty stressful.. But the effort paid off.. as now I am the fastest typist among my friends [90wpm]

I am a regular typist! I can touchtype as well as audio type and I learnt these skills on a business administration course many years ago. I think that this is a very handy skill to have as you don't have to constantly gaze down at the keyboard. You can also type a lot faster and get a lot more work done. You can write letters very fast and I just don't know what I would do without this skill. On the home keys there are two raised notches which let you know where to place your two index fingers. I would recommend typing lessons for everyone! Andrew

Its really amazing. You have such a great skills and experience in preparing electronic text data with your amazing speed of typing. As you said you have learned this from business administration course, that really helped you. And may suggestible to all new bees to improve their typing skills by taking these kind of programs.

I mostly use my index, middle and ring fingers while typing then I keep my right thumb on spacebar and little finger on enter(return) while in "neutral mode".

Actually I starting using computer 7 years back so I am not eligible to answer your question. But I will answer based on how I used to type when I started using computer. That time I had to see the keyboard to type and normally I would use only 2 fingers, one from each hand to type. But now after 7 years, looking at the keyboard is no more required and I use all my fingers including the thumb of the right hand to type.

So your time made wonderful turn to learn good keyboard skills. That's really awesome. But I suggest people to learn basic fingering while they begin at initial stage of using computers. what do you say?

Yes I guess it is good if people follow certain basic rules in the beginning. It can help them to learn quicker. Even there are some free typing tutorials which people can follow. But for me I didn't followed any rule like this and I learned only by normally using the computer. That's why I guess it took me long to start typing fast.

I actually use all my fingers in typing considering that I am familiar with the homekeys of my fingers in typing. I had units of typing class during college and that gave me the advantage of knowing how to type well. In fact, I can type using the homekeys of my fingers without looking at the keyboard. Actually its just a matter of practice. Now that I have joined mylot, I have also improved my typing speed. It is really great.

I am not, by any means a perfect typist, but I am getting better all of the time. I do use all of my fingers when I type, but I also look at the keyboard at times, especially when I have made an error and am correcting it.

i used to be like that when it was the first time i use the computer keyboard. my fingers actually are crossing with each other in typing which is not a good idea. and now, i am a good typist and have each fingers assigned to the letters in keyboard.

Thats really inspiring many of us..are at initial level. This topic would be a lesson to all that basic practice and fingering technique are required for fast learning. At initial stage every one will struggle to get practice with keyboard. But later they become master with high speed typing.

I try to typed with all my fingers. The problem is I cannot reach the numbers so I would do my numbers and symbols looking usin one finger at a time. If I make a mistake I would stop and erase the entire word instead of go back and edit afterwords. For this I am a slow typer instead of the fast typer. Happy lotting.

If you want to type 60 word per minute. You have to practice to type with all your fingers. If you want to be a good, speedy typist then better use your all fingers to type without looking the keyboard. Its easy, you just practice a sentence that includes almost all the alphabet and the key of the keyboard. Just like this sentence "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dogs near the bank of the river".

when i was on grade school the teacher told me that the proper way to type on keyboard is when you used all your finger. Hmmm but on high school and college i dont use most often the computers, so i forgot the basic and the right way to type in keyboard. so yeah im trying my best to use the basic skill and the proper way.

I am a touch typist and use all my fingers. It's a lot faster this way when you don't have to look at the letters in the keyboard. It's easier to focus on the content of the discussion and make lengthy responses. That being said, some people who only use 3 or 4 fingers typing are also fast typists because of their long typing experiences. There are many online typing lessons that can help users to improve on their typing skills. have fun

Yes i do. I use home key. I don't look at the keyboard to find the letter suitable for the sentence. For me it is more expressive in this area, I can express what I feel continously because I have no problem looking at keyboard to find the letters. And my typing speed gets even faster and I can response to many discussion as much as I can because I don't have to look at the keyboard. I was not like these before, but my job requires me to use home key because I do a lot of encoding. What i did was downloaded a typing master online and during my free time at work I do the test, until I achieve what I want to achieve. Everyone can do it.

I used to type very slowly before but now since i am doing a transcription job i need to type very fast. Then only i will be able to complete my work in a given time frame. Now i am using all my fingers for typing.Sometimes i don't use the keyboard and type but it is very rare.Because most of my job involves the keyboard so i have started improving my typing speed and accuracy. If we use one hand our typing will be very slow and we will not be able to complete our tasks fast.

I have using the computer for so many years. I don't use the right position of my fingers in the keyboards but I can say that I have an advanced typing speed. I envy those people who can type without looking in the keyboard.

I don't know what you mean operate, my friend? But I though you say; how's the style of your of your keyboard typing...or do you used all of your fingers while typing or are you faster typist? I consider that this is what you mean. Because in the description of you question is "operate". If we say operate there is two different things that maybe we operate because it has some defect or perhaps we can operate because were using it for typing... Well my opinion is that I only typing two to three finger while typing and not much faster compare to other users...How about you. Did you use all your finger when typing in your keyboard?

nice discussion gmkk i use all my fingers but i don't know why my speed keeps on varying, sometimes around 35 wpm and sometimes around 20 . . . hmm well that doesn't matter much to me, all i want to do is type without mistakes, yeah but well when i am giving some long posts i just wish i could type them really fast without mistakes, i have been using my laptop since 2 years now and i have learned typing without looking lately, i guess it is around 10 months or so, and i know i am not going to get any better with it, i text a lot and i am better at that i guess....lol have a nice day gmkk.
