Watered Down Religions

I had recently heard of a study where so called Christians said they didn't believe in the Bible. How can a Christian not believe in the Bible or dismiss it irrelevant? Are they saying they are Christians just because they don't have a religious affiliation and can't think of anything better? I don't see how you can separate Christianity from the Bible.

In the first two chapters of Revelation there are recorded letters to the churches of Asia Minor...not only are they addressed to an actual seven churches in the first century...they can also be seen as prophetic of church ages through history. Read carefully what the letters say each church lacked...and what was found to be praise-worthy in each. You will notice that one church in particular gets NO praise from the LORD....the one cited last, Laodicea...a totally bankrupt and Christ denying church...I believe this is the age in history of that church. There has been some serious doctrinal errors down through the ages...but the total denial of Christ and The Word of God is flagrently bandied about by today's modern thinking christians. And it has cause the fall of many who buy into it.

JUst noticed the title of your discussion...watered down christians. Funny thing is Jesus warned this particular church that he would VOMIT them out of his mouth...just struck me as sorta appropriate for your title.

good point, I hadn't though about that either. And I think you are right, we are in the Laodicean age. There are just too many other signs being fulfilled everyday.

How about this one? Yesterday I was told of a study that says that 90% of evangelical Christians believe in God. 90%! That means 10% of Christians don't believe in God! Amazing. I don't know how they came up with that number, but even if it's off a little I'm still surprised it's not 100%.

The Bible warns us that there would be many who call themselves by the name of Christ yet He would deny them as they denied him...in fact the term anti christ means one who uses the name christ but acts in opposition to Christ...that means there ARE many anti christ at work in the world today, huh? JUst like Jesus said there would be.

that is amazing. I know there is a difference in the classification of "Christian". There's the everyday Christian, the born again Christian, and then the evangelical Christian. I would think for sure Evangelical's would need to be at 100%

the term ''Christian' seems to be such a loose term these days that i dont even use it. i call myself a 'follower of Christ' in that i have a committed, personal relationship with Him. I dont get that either. the Bible is the total Word of God, they go hand in hand.

You are very right in saying "...you cannot separate Christianity from the Bible." Christ is the reason why we are called Christians! According to the Bible: they may call themselves Christians but they are most definitely not Christians. It makes no sense whatsoever why them deem themselves Christians as that is a lie. I can honestly say that I do not know what they are.

Maybe they just don't live by the book. I don't think that it makes them any less Christian just because they don't believe in the bible. You can believe in God but not need the bible to confirm that belief, but then I don't know why you would really label yourself as a "Christian". Why anyone needs any labels for their beliefs is beyond me, though. I don't think there's any right or wrong way to believe in God or believe in whatever else you believe in. I think it's all up to personal interpretation and belief.

This goes back to the question though, how can you be a Christian and not believe in the Bible?

So basically you think you can just believe whatever you want and it doesn't matter. If nothing matters then why believe anything?

I would call one Christian if he believes in God; believe in Jesus Christ and every spoken and written word in the Bible. If he doesn't then according to me he is not a Christian. He is not the follower of Christ. He is only professing that he is a Christian. God's word in the Bible is as two-edged sword. It divides those who are Christians from those who are not.

The Bible is the Word of God. A Christian is a follower of Christ. Christ quoted from the Bible. (Old Testament Scriptures) Since Christians are followers or disciples of Christ, they would necessarily believe what Jesus said and taught. He taught that we should "feed" on God's Word. The Word of God is the ONLY authority for a Christian, so one who dismisses it cannot call himself a Christian.

I agree with you too. There are people who just go to church, but do not have an actual relationship with God. They do not see the need for the Bible, because sometimes good works, their good heart, what they think they need to do to be a christian is based on their own views, society, not one taken from a biblical perspective. They don't fully understand what it is, to be christian, it is being a follower of God, praying, and using the Bible as their guidebook, map to get to where they need to be.

Christ is the living word! If they don't believe in the Bible how can they call themselves "Christ"-ians?
