I did some house cleaning this morning. I swept the floor and then mop the floor in my house. But in my bedroom, I will not sweep the floor first as I will go to the mopping directly. It always has a little dirt only in the bedroom so I just mop or wipe with the coth. How about you? Will you sweep the floor first before you go to mopping?

Hi sasa, I usually would get the floor swept cleanly before mopping it. It’s really annoying to see all those tiny and disgusting stuffs stick on the mop. You know I have to take the trouble to get rid of them while washing the mop. I hate to remove the fallen hair on it the most Most of the time, I prefer to clean the floor with the vacuum cleaner. It will absorb the dust, tiny stuffs as well as the fallen hair on the floor thoroughly. It’s more convenient to use the vacuum instead of a broom to do the floor sweeping. All the dust and other disgusting stuffs could hardly find on both the broom and mop after vacuuming Happy posting

You are very much welcome sasa Yeah, vacuum is always the best appliance to get rid of dust and tiny stuffs. It also could prevent from raising a dust when doing the floor cleaning work. Vacuum serves its purpose extremely well when the carpet needs cleaning up. Anyway, if cleaning small surface of floor, it is more simple and convenient to use a broom. Yeah, I always like to sweep or to vacuum the floor before mopping

Thanks for your reponse here. Yeah, it's really annoying for the tiny things, no matter you use the broom or the mop, it is very hard to get rid of it after you collected. It seems that the vacuum cleaner would be the best choice for collecting tiny things before mopping. Happy posting too.

so it’s nice for us to have all the three cleaning equipments at home. Broom is for the small area. Vacuum cleaner is for cleaning all the tiny stuffs. It’s convenient as well for cleaning area under furniture like bed, cupboard and etc. We still need a mop to wipe off the dust sticking on the floor after sweeping or vacuuming lastly. Thanks for the best response

Hello, Sasalove, we mop our floor several days in a day, as my son like crawling and playing on the floor, we have to keep the floor clean. Sometimes, we sweep the floor before mop it, but quite often we mop it directly, it depends on the dirtiness of our floor. Thanks for your question and wish you a nice day.

Hello, Sasalove, that is true, and more important, babies like to take things on the floor and put it into its mouth. Sometimes it is quite danger if the dirty things on floor are sharp or hard. I try to make things on floor as clean as possible, and take away all small things in case he want to put it into his mouth.

Hi Karen, Yeah, if there is kids at home, we should make the floor as clean as possible otherwise you need to wash your son's clothes even harder. Happy mylotting.

I think the logical order is to sweep away all the dirt first before mopping the floor. I think if you mop without sweeping then you may end up still having dirt on the floor albeit a shiny floor. But if you have a carpet or rug then using the vacuum cleaner is preferred.

That is a good idea. Thanks.

We have a rug just in front of the door rather than spreading all over the floor, then we will basically clean the rug monthly. The rug helps us a lot to prevent the dirt accumulating. Thanks for your advice and have a nice day.

I vacuum the carpets (rooms) and sweep the floor of the rest of the house.) I only mop it if it´s worth it. I have floating floor in living and diningsg area so it´s easy. I don´t do it every day either. I live alone. And the dog does not get inside the house.

True. I only clean daily the kitchen and the bathroom. I have busy days going to play with my younger grandsons, teaching Lola OUTSIDE, here at mylot and watching all sorts of CSI reruns I also invite a lot for diner, but my friends mess up the dining room and the kichen only. We only dine and talk at this time of our lives.

I think the room will not so easy to dirt if you live alone and not allow the dog to walk in. You can do it once a week if you are busy in other things.

I was always taught to sweep first before mopping the floor. That way you wouldn't be mopping your crumbs across the floor. Secondly, my mother-in-law would have a fit if she knew someone mopped the floor without sweeping first!

I think we do the things in the same way as older people. We were raised by them and we expect them to know the right things to do.

I realized that the senior always prefers to do the regular no matter what kinds of things, supposed what we call" experience". Under such pressure, regularly we will have no questions to do as what they did. Do you agree?

Hi, sasalove. I always sweep the floor before I would mop it. Sweeping gets most of the dirt, and debris off of the floor. When I go to mop, the floor will be free of crumbs and food particles. It makes the mop glide on the floor easily. Having dirt on the floor without sweeping, keeps me more busier mopping.

yes, it seems that it is much more wise if we sweep first as it will save a lot of efforts to collect the dirts by the mop.

Hi, I usually sweep the floor before moping, or else the dust, hair and other debris will stick to the mop, and makes it so much harder to clean.

Wow, it did true, particularly for the girls who drop the hairs a lot. For this occassion, I will use the tissue paper to pick up the hair first and then mock the floor. If I use the broom to collect the hair or other debris, it is also very hard to get rid of it from the broom.

I sweep, swiffer, then mop. Sometimes, I vacuum, then swiffer, then mop. You would really be surprised at what is left behind when you sweep or vacuum that a swiffer will pick up.

Hehe, yeah, it is true that you will never know what the swiffer will pick up as you did not care too much of the rubbish we produced, particularly for the big family ah~~

I always sweep or vaccum then mop. Mopping with a little dirt on the floor is not doing a good job of mopping. It will be gritty or just remain dirty I think.

Yes I always sweep the floor before I mop. Sweeping gets most of the dirt up of the floor even if just a little. It is the way I was taught to clean the floor.

I usually sweep the floor first to get rid of the dirt after that would I only mop the floor.. it's hard to mop when there's a lot of dirt in the floor, and you constantly stop to pick up something that cannot be cleaned by your mop.

I seldom do cleaning because I am a man who spends more time in office,I think it's better to sweep first then mop the floor, buf for the houses whose floor is padded with carpets,it's better to use vacuum cleaners,I was a test enginer and I tested many famous brand cleaners in the world such as Hoover,Dyson,Bissell,Royal,TTI floor care,Ryobi.....

Wow, you are lucky that you don't need to bother yourself in the household chores. Will you use your tested brand cleaners at your home?

Yes, I’ll always sweep the floor before mopping it. As it is, I do all the household chores myself so mopping is not done daily. I can mop the floors maybe twice or thrice a week and since I live right beside the main road, there’s a lot of traffic flowing and the house can become real dusty pretty fast. Sweeping the floor clears the fine layers of dust on the floor and then mopping it, makes the floor more clean.
@sasalove (1709)

Yup, you should handle the dust first before you go mop the floor otherwise the mop will make you floor more dirty. If I were you, I will close the window near the main road so that the dirts are not allowed to get in. Hehe~~Happy Mylotting!1

Yeah, thats the most logical thing to do. I sweep the floor first so that dirt will no longer be stuck on the mop because of course the mop is wet.

Hello! It is my practice to sweep the floor always before mopping. Ofcourse I like to mop immediately after sweeping so that whatever dirt is leftover will come clean. It is an ordeal ofcourse to do both, but ultimately you get the best results. Thanks Kalyani

My mom taught me that I should sweep the floor before mopping it, as mopping first will, at times, merely scatter the dust. There are also some dirt that couldn't be mopped up, and should be swept. Even in my room, I make it a habit to sweep the floor first before mopping or wiping it with a wet cloth. :)

Mopping the floor before sweeping is what i'm doing everyday.Do you wanna know the reason why I did this?My main good reason is that the dust must be taken first before the solid particles coz u know the dust will spread everywhereif you will do the other way around.
