Is it okay for a girl to...

...have only three menstrual periods in a year? I'm asking this in behalf of a friend. She's 18 years old and she's absolutely normal. It's just that she only has 3-5 menstrual periods in a year, and when she does have, it's just like any other girls: mild cramps, mild back pain, and only lasts for 5 days. I even envy her sometimes because she doesn't go through these difficulties every month. So, is it just OK? Should I be worried about her?

it is not natural for a girl to have 3-5 mentural periods per year. I had a friend that had the same thing i told her to see the doctor but she just ignored me when we were young now she has regert it cause now when she seems to start to be bothered by it she went to a doctor and she now found out that she have an ovary problem where now she has no capbility of bearing a child cause the damage was bad already. if she has gone before when she was young she could have been treated. Now no matter how she wants a child of her own she can't have one. Don't let your friend have the same problem. tell her to go now when she is still young and curable.

Yes, you should be worried and she should too. It is sometimes has to do with the hormones and does happen to a few girls, but she must see a doctor for a proper check-up.

i think she should get checked with a doctor just to be sure. sometimes if a girl is very stressed out, her periods will skip months or not happen until the next month. or, sometimes, when a girl loses too much weight, her period will stop. or sometimes if the girl is pregnant, it will also stop. there could be many reasons for it. it is better to be checked to make sure why. it might not be serious, but who knows.

Hi CrimsonRain, Me too know a girl with similar problem, When she went to the doctor, They have given some vitamin tablets and send her home and asked her to take healthy food...! Yes the Girl I've known is very lean and acts like a child, She rarely takes food, She eats only ice creams, chocolates, snacks etc., May be this too a problem, So try getting her to a Doctor, I wish your friend should be having similar health issues...! My wishes for her health...!

on average this is not ok unless the doc told her other wise. Also if she is taking birthcontrol pills this can minimize her period for 3-4 times per year.
