Speaking and formally writing a language are two different things. Not everyone speaks or writes poorly. I would suspect an English teacher would communicate better than an eight grade student. With the internet especially people (myself included sometimes) tend to get very lazy when communicating online. People are always in a hurry and may not have time to go over mistakes or maybe they do it on purpose to be cute, e.g., lol. Some people aren't as educated as others. You probably won't get the same level of competency from someone with a college degree as opposed to someone who only completed the eight grade. As far as speaking bad English the same holds true. Lack of education or laziness might factor into why someone is not speaking properly. I hope this US citizen has shed a little light on the subject of bad English.

You have to first realize that the U.S. is created from many different cultures of people who bring words from their own language and mix it into the English language. The English people were not the first ones in this country. English is much like Spanish where there are many variations. If you ask someone from Spain to speak to someone from Colombia or Puerto Rico in Spanish all three have very different meanings of the same words. Mexico also speaks a different variety of the language. So you cannot judge U.S. English on those from other countries because they are spoken much differently.

For one thing we in the US Speak an Americanized English. We use different spelling for the same words and different words for some things. I once watched an English TV show that the actors were talking about going to the hospital. They were saying we are going to hospital not as we do going to the hospital. We are a very big country and and speak differently in different regions as I'm sure they do in your country of India. Language is always changing as we invent new words to fit the situations.

hi sudheervm oh yes the discussion about rude American English well I am really rather angry at that as I think these nit picking people who want to get attention by calling us Americans rude English speakers are going way too far. Yes we do use punctuations and yes we may coin new words, what on earth is so damned bad about that? We are a varied people but the most educated of us speak excellent English, we write excellent English and we sure are not as Rude as some Indians have been in their discussions about American English. Compared to England America is a young country but we have dammed well accomplished a lot in our short time here and we have helped many other nations including the so proper speaking British Isles also.
