I always give gifts when its Christmas to my family and friends. I don't know this coming Christmas if I'll be able to give them gifts. I don't have a job or any other source of income. I think they understand if I'll just greet them instead.

At Xmas time, my family reunites and has diner together, but we don't present gifts each other. If the parents see that their children need something, they will buy it right away, we don't have to wait until some special occasion such as Xmas to receive what we want and deserve to have. But anyway, it's still too soon this year to think of Xmas, right?

I always give gifts during Christmas, but the people on the list changes and the size of the lists changes as well. Sometimes alot of family gets gift certificates, or home made boxes of fudge. Other times, we go more personal and thoughtful.

Hi Craicha, I am lucky in that I don't currently have nieces or nephews, though when I do I am not all that sure if I will buy them things. My priority tends to be my family, especially my dad and brother, and then the few friends I have. If I have money then I might consider more err distant family members, but they don't generally bother much with us at the moment either so it is a mutual just exchanging cards agreement thing we have because of the recession lol. If we do get gifts for the more distant family members it seems to be boxes of posh biscuits that are on the 3 for £20 offers in the supermarkets, same of them with us too lol. It is only the last few years that I started to give gifts to people though. I am quite tight with my money, I hate spending it, and so it was only when I got university grants, and then money from surveys, that I started to buy people things. If I don't have any spare money then I wouldn't bother and I am sure people would understand. My mum is in that position at the moment and I don't begrudge her for it, I know that when the roles are reversed she understand why I don't buy gifts so it works out well in the end . But if I can't afford presents then I tend to just get cards and then do something creative for people. My dad has a poem and a picture from me on his bedroom wall (much to my hatred ) which are testaments to my inability to afford gifts in previous years. My friends have poems from past birthdays too. All the best and I hope that next Christmas will be better for you with regards to gifts. Dranz
