I've heard the story of a deserter that just turned himself in for fleeing the US Govmnt for over 6 months. He felt he was a danger due to PTSD he suffered. He stated that he didn't get the appropriate help and felt running away was the safest for everyone around him. He has turned himself in and could face up to 5 years in prison. He is behind bars and not eligible for bond. How should we treat men and women that have served, but just couldn't take the mental, emotional and spiritual strain that war brings? What should we do with soldiers that flee and then come back? How can we help? Your thoughts...and please state what area of the world you come from. I think this could be very interresting. Thank you.

I think it's totally irresponsible and arrogant of the Government to punish a person because he ran from a situation where he felt he was a danger to others. As others have said, the soldier deserves counseling and help, not punishment.

I'm from India.I feel it is better to counsel such people. There might be some underlying problem which can be overcome through counselling with a specialist. The punishment ought to be lesser and it is better they are rehabilitated in an area where the strain is less on them.
