I enjoy taking photos of murals

Mural: Boy squirting paint - This mural is situated in an alleyway near the backpackers, Moray Place North, Dunedin, New Zealand. There's a mark on the wall in the middle towards the top, and another on the boy's hand. The letters across the middle - IRD - stand for Inland Revenue Department. I'm not sure what they have to do with the painting...!

In our city we have a lot of murals scattered around, some of them have been commissioned, and some of them have just been painted by people who specialise in high-class graffiti. Some of them are of scenes (including the history of the town), some of them are of people (like Queen Victoria - her statue is across the road from the mural), some of them are just fantastic, and some of them are like large-scale cartoons. The photo below shows one of the more cartoon-like murals. It's in an alleyway just off one of the main streets in the town, and has a companion mural on the opposite wall. As you can see, there's been some damage to it. This is the problem with murals; they're often treated badly by both the public and the civic authorities. I have some photos of murals that are no longer displayed, either because the building has been pulled down, or they've been painted over.
