Could You Sell Your Baby???

http://www.wsmv.com/news/21204908/detail.html When I first heard of the woman in Tennessee who was attacked & her baby was kidnapped, I was horrified!!! Then I heard that the baby was found & returned & I thanked God for reuniting the Mother & child. When I heard that the baby had been removed from the home along with the three siblings, I was confused. i felt soooo sorry for that poor Mother!!! I felt she was being traumatized by the local government. Now it has been announced that the Mother had been trying to sell the baby. WHAT WAS SHE THINKING??? Maybe I've been fortunate enough to never be that broke. I stopped & thanked God for giving me the wonderful life that I've had. NO, it's not been perfect, but I've not gone hungry, I've not abused any children & I've had everything it takes to survive each day. I just can't imagine the thought process of a Mother willing to stoop so low as to sell her baby. Why do people who can't afford children keep having them??? Why would a Mother want to sell her baby??? Why would a woman selling her baby report it as kidnapped??? The lady that supposedly kidnapped the child has not been released. Has the government jumped in & falsely accused this Mother or have they falsely accused the woman accused of kidnapping the baby??? Has the press jumped in too fast in order to report this story??? What do you think about all of this????

I think a woman who wants to sell her baby is totally useless and worthless. There is no valid excuse to sell any baby. They are all precious and any lady who is blessed with a baby is truly blessed. This kind of story always infuriates me. So many women want kids and can't have them.

Carol, this woman was found INNOCENT of ALL charges!!! By the end of the day, she was released from jail & her children returned to her. It was a cousin who had attempted to sell the baby. I feel soooo bad for ever bringing her story into a discussion here!!! She had done NOTHING wrong!!! I don't know that we will EVER know the REAL details of everything that happened.I'm just disappointed in myself for jumping in on this one!!! As one of those women who has ALWAYS wanted a child but never been able to have one, the thought of a woman having one & just discarding it infuriated me also. Now I feel pure guilt for perpetuating this false story against an innocent woman!!! My most heartfelt apologies go out to her!!!!

Chills went up my spine and legs when I read this. This was very played by the local media here. I live in tennessee and every time that there was an update on the case it was talked about. I don't see it either. I mean why would you do that. Why not go through a normal adoption agency and do it legally instead of going behind the scenes. atleast this way everything is legal and if she wanted to give the baby up then it would get a good home. It also reminds me of this woman that crossed the state line from north carolina into tennessee and stopped and the rest stop and they found a baby at the rest stop. She ended up getin child endangerment and child abandoment charges on her. These people around take this type of crime very seriously. Along with the other woman. There are too many places for the woman to visit and drop her child off than for her to leave it and abandon it or worse leave it for the dogs so to speak. So that is why they are all over this. Plus the hospitals around here have been designated as safe places along with the walmarts( which in the city of knoxville there is like 5 of them not to mention the out lying areas.) There is no excuse for something like this to happen in my eyes. There are too many people who are ligitamtely looking for a family because they can't have a family of there own.

As you know by now, she was released & her children returned to her. Since then the details just kinda trailed off into nothing. Was the cousin ever arrested or the kidnapper released??? This whole thing has bothered me from the first second I heard of it. My gut tells me something is terribly WRONG here, but I'm just not sure what it is!!!

I could not remark about this because I haven't thought of selling my baby. This is really an illegal way of treating ones baby. If you can't raise it, you should not give birth to it. The baby is the gift from God. So we all need to treasure them. Selling one's own baby? hmmm. The mother may be out of her mind. Or maybe the press just reported a false story. I would rather not to believe it.

The press did not report a false story. However, the police DID falsely charge the mother!!! She had NOT tried to sell her baby. A cousin admitted that she had tried to sell the baby. The children removed from the home, have since been returned. What concerns me now is the cousin was never reported as arrested & the kidnapper has not been released!!! So, it still doesn't make complete sense to me. I, like the press, am stepping back until I can learn the REAL truth!!!!

It is not right to try and sell your baby for any reason. The media does tend to release a story sometimes sooner then they should. Until all the facts are in they should not make it public about the mother trying to sell the baby. Now the kidnapping part should be release so if someone see the baby they can report it. Until the police collect all the evidence we will not know if they falsely accused the mother or have arrest a woman who did not kidnap the baby but brought the baby instead.

Now the police have released the Mother & kept the kidnapper in jail. They are now saying that the Mother did nothing wrong as it was a cousin that had tried to sell the baby. The kidnapper was fighting extradition to Tennessee until the police charged the Mother, then she willingly went back. Just as the police got the kidnapper in their custody, they released the Mother & kept the kidnapper. Now I'm wondering if the police didn't use the press to assist them in the case. The cousin supposedly admitted her part, but has not been arrested. The children have been returned to their parents & I wonder if we will EVER know the true story behind this one. The press has dropped it like a hot potato & I can't blame them!!! I'm feeling bad about my contribution to perpetuating this story. I just hope that some day we will hear the TRUTH!!!

I couldn't sell my baby either. As it turned out, this Mother did NOT try & sell her baby. She was FALSELY accused by the local police department. A cousin had tried to sell the baby, NOT the Mother. Her children have since been returned to her!!! I'm still confused by all this as the cousin has not been reported as arrested & the kidnapper has not been released. I don't know if it's the press not accepting the word of the local authorities anymore or if it has just never happened. NONE of this story makes a whole lot of sense any longer!!!

well it depends on the reason..my bestfren sister, bought a baby bcos the husband cant give her a baby..the reason why it was sold bcos the mother has already 8 children and she cant take care and afford anymore..now that baby is already 13 yrs old,and in a private school, and has a nice life..so its worth it and she didnt regret it...

I can see NO reason for a mother to sell her baby. It worked out for your friend, but a woman who had delivered 8 children should not have had a 9th one she couldn't afford!!! I think it is illegal in most states to sell a child. I know of women who carry a baby for another couple & are compensated for their expenses. I don't know how they can do it. Maybe that's why I don't become a surrogate mother as I don't think I could do it. Getting pregnant with another person's baby must be different than carrying your own child & then deciding you don't want it & putting it up for sale to the highest bidder. I like to think that is what separates us from animals...we love our offsprings!!!

Wow!! This is unreal and crazy. How can some woman carry a child full term and either abuse it, or try selling it to someone? I can see if you are being a surogate or putting your child out there for adoption, but this realm is a little Bad for sure. I know that for any woman to stoop to these lengths is pretty sad, and even if I was starving and had kids there are other means for help in getting by instead of doing something like this. But personally I think only time will really tell in what the real motives were with everyone involved for sure.

I am happy/sad to report that this was just a circumstance of the police being overzealous!!! Happy because the Mother was NOT trying to sell her baby...Sad because she & her family were put through so much anguish for having done nothing wrong!!! By the end of the same day she was arrested & her children removed from the home, she was released & her children returned. A cousin was the person who was trying to sell the baby. Even the press is no longer covering this story. I wonder if they felt they were being used??? The kidnapper had been fighting extradition back to Tennessee...that is until she learned that the Mother had been arrested...then she waived her rights & was returned. I've seen nothing on the cousin being arrested for attempting to sell the baby. I'm wondering if it's not all an elaborate hoax by authorities in order to get the desired result at the expense of that poor family???

I think that the lady is acting very strangely indeed. I am not sure if her baby was really kidnapped. She must have been mad to sell her baby. Every baby is precious. I have a three month old baby girl. She is my precious little baby and I adore her. In my home country last year there was a lady that declared her little girl Shannon had been kidnapped. She got lots of money from the media coverage. Shannon was found and it had all been a funny set up by her mom. Cases like that are rather weird.

I think this whole story is strange!!! I've never had my own children. I did have a stepchild. I remember the love I felt for her. I cannot imagine thinking of selling her. I know the bond a Mother is supposed to have is much greater than the bond I had with my ex-husband's daughter. So, I can only imagine how I would feel if it were my biological child. I cannot imagine thinking of selling my child!!!

My babies were and are still the most precious gifts in my life and I would do anything to protect them, even sacrificing other family members if I had to. I don't understand how anyone could even consider selling their child! My sons are now adults but I consider them gifts from God.

Children are God's GREATEST gift!!! In rethinking, maybe this baby will be better off in a home where he can be truly loved & appreciated!!! I just feel soooo sorry for 4 children who have not had the opportunity of a true Mother's love!!!

Hi KadyM, I am very confused with this story, which is the true one/ wait till it all comes out before I could judge this woman, but the poor children, feel so sorry for them. Tamara

Hello tamara...I owe this Mother a HUGE I'M SORRY FOR JUDGING YOU!!! I know better than to listen to the press. I should have waited a few days before pointing out her story!!! Yes, I was confused too & that should have been my first clue to keep my mouth SHUT!!! As it turned out, the charges have been dropped against the Mother & Father in this case. A relative of the family (I think it was a cousin) admitted that she was the one trying to sell the baby. I've waited about a week before saying anything else as I screwed up BIG time in starting this discussion!!! I feel better knowing it was NOT the Mother who wanted to sell her child. I don't know that we will ever hear the real truth.. I am pleased to say that ALL the children have been returned home to their parents!!!! FINALLY...a happy ending to a terrible story!!!! I'm going to do my BEST to not jump on anything reported by the press from now on!!! In this case, they did NOT lie. The government just misjudged the circumstances & it snowballed from there.

it's very bad to sell babies, babies should be loved and cared by a mother very well. i love my children more than myself so i would die if something bad would happen to them so it's very bad to make money out of your children.

that is the most ridiculos thing a mother could ever do... mothers would even go through great deals of sacrifice for their kids.. i am a mom and iknow that. we would give up so many things for our kids.. and do many things beyond our expectations just to make sure our kids have what they need... selling her baby only shows she is thinking of noone but herself... she don't deserve to be called a mother at all.

Good day to you, Lady M. This was an interesting story to read through. It would seem to me that there are a lot of loose ends still to tie up in this case. With the internet, the rush is on to report "happening" news, often before the entire story plot becomes clear. It would appear to me that this story still needs a thorough investigation. How could anyone sell a baby? No matter how tough life may be, I cannot imagine the horror of handing over your child to someone willingly involved in an illegal adoption. To further add to the stress, all the children are now faced with the uncertainty and frightening reality of being forced into foster care. I try to avoid reading this type of story if I can. It is not because I don't care, it is because it breaks my heart to think of what the poor innocent little kids are now living through.

Good morning, my friend!!! I don't care for these types of stories either. Unfortunately, I keep hearing reports on my local news. Somewhat like a soap opera, I just can't help but keep listening. The facts have been very confusing, so when they told the latest report this morning I wanted to know more. I have had every emotion from sad to horrified. I didn't mean to upset you with this story. Thank you for expressing your thoughts!!!

The Mother doesn't need help loving her baby. It's the police that needs help in knowing what they are doing before they accuse anyone. They had to release the Mother & Father in this case because they did NOTHING wrong!!! They have been given their children back. A cousin admitted that she had tried to sell the baby. In this case, THE MOTHER DID NOTHING WRONG!!! & I should have NEVER said a word. This was just another reminder for me to be MORE careful in what I say. I should NOT have repeated the news report until I could verify the sources. I promise to do better in the future!!!

I don't understand either side!!! I just can't understand why anybody would think it is OK to kidnap a child. I really can't understand why a woman would even think of selling her child!!! This whole story is mind boggling to me!!!!

I don't get the thought process of the mother, but I have seen many parents who treat their children as a chore or something to be put up with, rather than cherished. It is so sad. I suppose it's not too much of a jump from there to making the child a commodity. I have been pretty broke, and we've had some bad times. But they are my children, regardless. I think, if I could see nothing but pain for my child in my life, I could give it up to someone else. But I would want to choose the family, not let someone else do it for me. I am not sure, though, because I've never been there. As for the media, they can't wait before reporting a story, escept under special circumstances. I would think, as a reporter, that a dinapped child should be reported as quickly as possible so that it could be found faster. So How can we blame them? And the lady that "kidnapped" AKA bought the child is still a criminal. She should still be in jail.

I agree the kidnapping should have been reported immediately!!! I also think the press jumped in too quick in accusing the Mother of trying to sell her child. As it turns out, the local police had falsely accused the Mother as it was a cousin that had tried to sell the baby. The Mother is out of jail & has had all her children returned to her. The cousin has not been reported as arrested & the kidnapper is still in jail. I, like the press, jumped in too quick with judgment. I apologize to that INNOCENT woman for bringing this to light here. I still don't believe any woman should sell her child. I still don't understand everything that happened in the course of this life altering event. I've learned a valuable lesson from it though!!!

i would never do such thing to any of my children. i have born them for 9 months, sacrificed long and tiring nights to take care of them, fed them and did everything to make them healthy and well. as a parent it is my responsibility to take care of my children and see to their welfare. if i feel i can no longer support my children, i would seek the help of my relatives whom, i am sure, will gladly do it with open arms.

You have a HEALTHY attitude!!! When the truth came out, this mother had NOT tried to sell her child either. The police had made a mistake. A HUGE mistake!!! And I hang my head in shame as I made a mistake in bringing up this discussion here!!! ALL the children have been returned to their parents!!! I'm still confused as to some of the details & I wonder if we'll EVER know the truth. I like to think I've learned a valuable lesson!!!

I'm glad I don't live in your country!!! I don't think any mother who carries a baby for 9 months could willingly give away their child. I bet the mothers in your country have their heart broken each & EVERY time it happens to them!!!
