Do you refill your printer ink cartridges or buy new ones?

One of the chores I dred the most is changing the ink cartridge in the printer. It is one of my least favorite things to do. When it's time to change your ink, do you prefer to refill the cartridge yourself, or do you buy a new one?

That's the one I hate refilling cartridges, one time when I refilled and the ink blast on my face and clothes. The syringe was not attached anymore., it was a messed on the floor, walls and tables just lucky my boss is kind enough. So she bought a continous ink, some tube were attach to cartride, all I am going to refill is the small 4 bottles but it still the same when air is present to the tube the printer won't print good quality. So i guess I hate refilling..

You can save money by refilling ink cartridges yourself. It is a messy job though.

Even though I want to buy a new cartridge, I can't because of lack of sufficient budget. So, I am stuck with refilling my family's printer's cartridge...Even though I try my best to teach my sibling how to do so that they can fix it themselves, they still pass the job to me, saying I'm the big sis who's course is IT, so I gotta do it...Oh well, they are NOT fair!

This is what happens when you are too good at something.

When I used to have a printer, I would buy new ink cartridges. It was the easiest way to change it out. I tried the ink cartridge refilling kit one time and could not get it too work and I made a huge mess so I never bought it again. I haven't had a printer for awhile now so I haven't had to worry about ink for a long time.

I had a bad experience in this matter. My black cartridge got over and I got it refilled in a place where many go for refilling. It took out print of four or five pages and there after, no black cartridge message started coming continuously. I asked the person, who took it for refilling and he said many get the cartridge refilled there and do not know why this message is coming. He is a dependable person and known to the family since years and not greedy type. So I purchased new hp cartridge. But I still feel why refilling is ok for so many and not for me.

I prefer to refill it. It cost me just Rs.150 ($3.11) for a refill pack that will last 2 or 3 refillings. if i buy a new cartridge, it will cost me Rs.800 ($16.58). there is a big saving in refilling. i get it done by a friend who does the refilling free for me. all that i have to do is to buy the refilling ink and syringe. he does the rest.

I do prefer only purchasing of new cartridge but due to some other reasons I some times go for refilling of cartridges. But I wont get the expected result from the refilled cartridges because they wont follow standards in refelling of the same. This happens because of the variation between product and service. If companies offer refilling with standards, people would surely depends on them by avoiding faulty services from tiny operators.

for my HP printers, yes, i do prefer refilling them.. cartridges are usually at their best up to the 6th refill.. but since i'm pretty good at it, i refill my ink more than 10x, depending on the actual print results.. if the results are still satisfactory, i'd still go for it. else, i get new cartridges. as for epson printers, i'd really rather go for CISS rather than directly refilling the cartridges.

what ? it would be crazy to go for a new refill when you already have one because it costs almost double. i always get it refilled by some experts and use it.

I don't have printer in my home. But in my office we have 5 printers. We used to call the company representative to refill the cartridge in the past. But as it cost more, we watched him to know the procedure of refilling without his knowledge. Because they will not allow us nearby them while refilling. After knowing the procedure, we then used to but the ink and a syringe and filled ourselves. The cost of refilling is too low when compared to the charge ,they usually bill.It is a simple work and for that we have spent a lot as we did not know the procedure.

I am glad to see that you have had success refilling your own cartridges. I have tried it in the past, but I guess I just don't have the patience for it.

I alwasys buy a new cartrige for my printer. they are easy to change out but buying cartriges for my printers can be expensive. I do not do as much printing as I once did so I do not have to purche them as often. I have a printer that prints both blank ink and color ink. I ussaly try to buy them at the smal time. I never refill them, I am not sure if I can even do that with my cartrages.

Hi, Sender! I know what you mean when it comes to change the printer ink cartridge. I seldom use the printer at home, but at my previous work place, I would normally change a new cartridge instead of do a refill. We were using a huge printer, I forgot the brand, and the cartridge was heavy. Anyway, all those empty cartridges will be then returned to the supplier, I guess.

I buy new cartridges. People have this impression that it’s more expensive this way, but I am doing this because I don’t want to damage my printer. The printer that I currently have is a Canon and it’s pretty pricey so I am making sure that I am using it right and only use genuine ink. I get my cartridges from and it’s convenient because they have free shipping and can also do next day delivery.

I buy a new cartridge. I don't even know how to refill it. Don't you have to take it somewhere to have it refilled? At any rate, I make sure though that I dispose of the used cartridge in a recycling center or send it back to the manufacturer to be thrown away responsibly. HP does this for instance. They give you a post paid envelope for used cartridges.

I prefer refilling my ink cartridges since it is cheaper that way. I get to save a couple of dollars by refilling. I uses Canon printers for our shop and at least 10 times or more I use to refill it before disposing the cartridges.
