Empire State Building's tribute to China

I understand this is a public building, but should there be some regulation in what message the building will send with public displays? I am not sure why this happened, I read that it was to commemorate the people of China and not the government. What do you think? Do you think that Americans should be concerned with the presence of Chinese powers here in the states? Did Chinese officials with enough financial interest in the building call for this tribute and intend it to honor the Chinese government?

I think it was to honor the government and not the citizens of China. It was in poor taste. It seems we have a large number of "people in power" to make these types of decisions that need to get their head out of their butts and pay attention to the world around them. They are so far removed from the plight of everyday citizens and how messages like this affect them.
