Hello all. Lately, I am very much into watching the Dr. Oz show. He is soooo down to earth and just full of great, mostly natural, health tips and insists that nothing, but nothing, should embarrass us concerning our health and well-being and when paying attention to it or discussing it with our drs.
Now, for the "gross" part. Part of good health habits are to pay attention to our bodies and catching problems in their earliest stages...and these are some of the things he has addressed, so I ask you...
Do you pay attention to things like any moles or sores you might have and to the things that come out of your body...things that, um, er, go into the toilet? Or come out of your nose, mouth, or ears? To lumps, bumps, and "ugly" spots?
Do you freely discuss all changes and concerns with your drs. without hesitation? Have you ever caught a problem before it got out of hand? A lump or sore or blood where none should be, and then been glad to bring it up to your dr. and have it taken care of?
Lives have been saved by paying attention to such things.3 people like this

Hi Karen, we don't get anything like that but it certainly sounds preferable to checking things out on the internet and diagnosing oneself with a strange and deadly disease. I liked Hatley's response as it shows the dangers of innocent little berries and sweetcorn.

Hi Yugasini. I don't know if you can get the Ask Dr. Oz show in India. The show is on television here in the US at 7 p.m. each night. Oprah first introduced him on her show. He is very intelligent ( a heart surgeon ) and offers all kinds of health tips, food tips, weight loss and exercise tips on his show. He has examples of healthy and diseased organs and helps people all over the country who write in to him with problems.
There is such a wealth of good information on his show, and he presents it in front of a live audience, and uses methods that make the show interesting and entertaining, as well as educational. There is no fee. The show is free for all to view.@yugasini (12892)

I do to the point that I wonder if I and indeed my doctor think I am a hypochondriac! I do worry at times that I could be deemed as a hypochondriac, I am very observant in all of my bodily functions and although I do suffer with anxiety and finding parts of your body doing abnormal things or finding things which don't look, sound or feel right doesn't help the anxiety issues I have. Fortunately I do have a good doctor and I know it may sound strange but I am more likely to discuss personal and indeed embarrasing matters with a FEMALE doctor than I am with a male doctor, does that make sense? I guess you have to feel comfortable with your doctor to be able to discuss such matters. I had a problem with my waterworks and believe me everything has been checked, sadly there was no easy outcome in that it was more mental than physical but that meant having my extremities and embarrassments put aside as I put through a few embarrassing operations and procedures, but after a while you tend to lose your inhibitions and I have no problem if any doctor or consultant needs to see any part of me. After all don't they see naked bodies day in and day out? We are no different and I always think why suffer, the worry and anxiousness you have if something doesn't look or feel right can actually excerbate the situation and make you feel even worse than the original condition if caught early enough. The classic case is testicular cancer, most men are embarrassed to show their doctor their privates if they are worried about a lump, but surely isn't better to overcome the initial embarrassment if it's going to catch cancer in time? Rather than live with it to find out it's too late?

Hi Wolfie...nice to "see" you! Physical ailments are a common accompaniment to depression, and yes, it leads to anxiety over our well-being, and naturally so!
Also oddly enough, many men I know of do prefer female doctors...there are theories as to why, but that would be for another kind of discussion lol.
It is good to be as you are...totally comfortable with one's doctor, and minus any embarrassment, as that can kill, literally.

Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji,
Your topic of discussion is very much needed to all lady members here in particular. As ladies always reveal the truth at the end and final stage. They try and avoid. Recently, my hubby had to drag elder sister of my younger DIL, and later on Cancer was detected, Two yrs have almost past, while she has been treated. People must bring out such issues in the family over dining table without any hesitation. I also suggest elders in teh family should take to reveal their un-fitness infront of everyone, as such shyness will go off from teh children.
May God bless You and have a great time.

Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji,
So nice of you for your encouraging comments. She is doing fine. Thanks for showing concern for her. I would find be-fitting platform here ton reveal the fact, that most of us suffer because of silly mistakes. Today at the ageof 65 yrs, I am chronic patient of RA (since 16 yrs), HTN (since 30 yrs), DM2 (since 25 yrs), UTI (since 5 yrs). Initially, I suffered with Gastric problems. The main raeson, when I wa spassing through Monopause stage, I nevr consulted any Gynic to compewnsate calcium loss in my body. With HTN and DM2, it added fuel to fire. Today, my hubby never hesitates to approach and suggests to visit Gynic after Lady crosses 40 yrs. H ewill openly deliever lectures to all ladies in the family. It is because he wants no otehr lady should ever suffer due to such negligency. So elders are responsible to set example over dinning table and keep advising younger generations.
May God bless and have a graet time.

Hi there, good to be back in one of your discussions. I don't watch television, but Dr. Oz is a personal favourite through the health discovery website I follow.
I also think his book - You, The Owners Manual - is a must have for all home libraries. It is very reasonably priced, which is a wonder in todays market. I think it was around $15.00, tax inclusive.
He is one who can explain the most complex issues in the such a down earth fashion. He is also not an alarmist, which I personally find refreshing in this day and age.
When your body is doing or expelling something gross/ugly/embarrassing, it is telling you to seek professional assistance, NOW. There is very little you can say to your Doctor that he hasn't heard/seen/experienced a hundred times before.
I tip my hat to this man, for bringing this out in the open in such a user friendly fashion.

Thank you, Malamar. I have the utmost respect for Dr. Oz, for many of the same reasons you do. His genuine concern for and desire to help people shows in every facet of his personality.
I imagine he requested the lower price tag on his book so that it was affordable to almost everyone. His advice is broad, wise, and easily understood, so kudos to this very approachable man.
