is it fair, GIRLS, to change our last names into our husband's / myLot

Is it fair girls to change our last names into our husband's once we get married? The thought just accidentally came into my mind. LOL! But seriously, why not the other way around or at least let the women make a choice to keep her last name or change it. What do you think?

well, i think it just fine so that my friends will recognize me that i already married and if i retain my lastname they will surely ask why i am single lol.but i think in other countries they practice it and it is not necessary to change your lastname.
