Maradona considering resigning

Just read that Maradona is considering resigning from his post as coach of Argentina. Am I the only one who thinks this is seriously unlike him? Representing Argentina is in his DNA. He once criticized a player for missing a friendly because the player had to take an exam. Had the job really got to his head? It is true that he is lacking as a national coach, but for him to just give up like that would be extremely uncharacteristic.

A great player of his calibre might not neccessary have the ability and most importantly, experience to coach such a big footballing country like argentina. I don't reckon that he should resign, i suggest they get an experience manager to work alongside maradona. That should work out because maradona has experience of winning big games, and getting a manager to work with him is to help maradona with squad and tactics selection.

fallenjinx, In the first place, the match results have so far been disappointing and so far reaffirmed that Mardonna may just not be suitable to be the national coach for Argentina. He may be or rather had been one of the world greatest soccer players but a coach is a completely different ball game. Argentina's position to qualify for the World Cup is hanging precariously and no thanks to him so far, he should have gotten some assistance than go at it alone. For him to step down is really not uncharacteristic but the timing just sucks. I am just wondering at the end of the day - why not earlier? I hope that Argentina could win the 2 remaining matches with 1 of the 2 matches playing tomorrow morning and the play off to qualify for the world tournament. It will a tournament of sorts without Argentina and just would hate to see them out.

good players do not necessarily become good managers, and the appointment of Maradona to the Argentinian role was a strange one, as he has no coaching experience. From an outsider looking in it doesnt seem to be picking the best players for the games.

Well, Argentina is embarrassing itself under Maradona. No doubt Maradona should go, even though he is a legend. Maybe he can go for some coach or manager training, but for now he must go. The result is just not there.

Hi fallenjinx, I read it too. The reason for Maradona to resign is because the Argentina technical director Carlos Bilardo try to put a hand on the squad selection. And I think that is fair. Every coach in this world would not be happy if someone try to interfere their job, no matter who is the person is. The coach should have their own selection because they are the one who will bear all the consequences in any result. The rest can just leave it if the result just not like what they want. I think is is depend on the result of their next 2 qualifying games that determine whether Maradona still the Argentina coach or not after that. If Argentina can qualify for the 2010 World Cup, he will be happy to continue his term there. But if not then, even if he want to continue, someone in the Argentina Football Association would not happy and ask for his resignation.
