Eating 3 square meals vs eating small portions all day.

Which of the two options is healthier? They say you shouldn't skip the most important meals of the day, but I tell you most people who really eat 3 square meals are either obese or not really the healthiest. On the other hand, I notice those who are slim and healthy eat small portions and keep on chewing all day, but then they're slim and fit. Do you think it's better to eat small portions several times a day than to just eat thrice?

I suppose it's good to eat 3 square meals per day, if you don't snack in between those meals, and if those meals are healthy. I do not eat 3 meals per day, but I try to eat healthfully. I eat small portions of food throughout the day. I avoid eating saturated fats and very salty foods. I don't eat candy and never did. Perhaps it is more important to eat healthy food, regardless of whether or not we eat 3 meals per day or small portions of food throughout the day? I honestly don't know the answer to this question. What I do know, for myself, is that I am not hungry in the mornings, so that I would never sit down for a large breakfast! Have a great day!!!

I think this is a very difficult topic to answer really. We are used to different things and one thing doesn't work for the other. I think it depends on the person, his metabolism or framework of health. We cannot really say that what's good with us will be good with another person. But all I know is that it's difficult to eat healthy. Not only because the produce are difficult to find, but because they're too expensive. We need money to be healthy, I guess. Thanks for the response, have a great mylot experience ahead!

You definitely make a very good point about produce being expensive. This is very unfortunate. And, I guess one could say that having enough money is required in order to eat very healthfully. This is really a sad state of affairs. If one cannot afford to purchase produce, perhaps a second best choice is to buy frozen foods, like frozen vegetables.

I think it is good to eat 6 small "meals" everyday. I try and most of the time succeeded in doing it. The above comment is on spot because someone once put it another way - that inn order to keep a fire burning you need to re-fuel it by for example adding more wood to the fire. And our metabolism is like that. At first you feel like you are eating all the time but you do eat used to it

Hmmm... How do you do it? I do try to do it but I end up over eating. How do you know it's "small"? Is eating fruits considered "small meals"? I am quite confused over the matter now that I come to realize it. The topic has been here for almost 4years now and just now while reading your comment, I do think that there's a huge gray area about how "small" is determined. Is it "small" like half or one-fourth of the usual meal? or "small" in terms of calories? I don't really know, could you shed some light perhaps? Thanks for the response, apologies for the very late reply. Have a great mylot experience ahead!

My biggest meal of the day is breakfast, and then through out the day i have a small meal every 2 hours or so. I find that it helps keep your energery leveal up and at a even pace all day.

Hi laydee Let me tell you a story..LOL..The first of this year I started going to a gym and enter a contest to lose weight. I had a trainer tell me this things. If you do eat the right food three times a day and have three healthy snacks a day, plus drink lots of water you will lose weight. I did what he said and I did lose 24 pounds over two months. The reason he said is because that you need to keep the body fueled. If you dont the body will think that you are going to starve it and keep the food stored. Doesn't that make since..Also remember that every persons body is different..Have a great day my friend..

Hmm... So the more you eat (the right meal) the more the body would relax with the storage of fat, so you lose weight? That does make a good point. I guess it's wrong to go dieting and stopping ourselves from eating. Just as long as we eat right. Thanks for the tips. I sure would remember that one. Have a great mylot experience ahead!

I always eat small portions of food during the day when I`m in vacation but when I start working I always eat 3 square meals all day because I need the energy from the regulary of 3 sqaure meals .I think that eathing 3 sqare mealls all day is more healthy that eating small portions all day
