Axolotls are a member of the salamander family found only in Mexico in the wild. They are amazing creatures as they can grow back parts of their bodies that are lost, including parts of their brain! They are popular pets and also seen commonly ion science labs where they are studied for their regenerative abilities. I also like the fact they have nice smiley faces.......

wow this is amazing!! very surprising what we have on this planet. i've never heard of them. fantastic. it is a cute creature. i can see why they are trying to find out how this works. it must have been around for many centuries.

Yes I think you are right. They must be fascinating to scientists, imagine how amazing it would be if they could work out how to grow new body parts for people! Thanks for your comment.

My cousin has an axolotl and it is the first one I have ever seen in my life. I have only visited her once when she had her axolotl because she lives on the other side of the world to me. She lives in Australia. I thought the axolotl had a very friendly face. I have visited Mexico a couple of times.

My boyfriend saw one in a pet shop and was fascinated, he wants to get one. Apparently they live a long time. We had one in the science lab at school, it was a lovely dark purple/black colour and must have been pretty old as it was huge! Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the picture of the axolotl and more information. I just posted some information on MyLot about a few animals that included the axolotl and your post came up on the right, so I thought I would check it out.
