Independance in life

Independance in life is something everyone wants to enjoy. But in countries like India to a certain extent a person loses his/her independance after marriage. It maybe because of added responsibilities or dependancies. Friends do you think a person should be 100% independant throughout his/her life or partially balancing both responsibilities and dependancies?
