Yay! That was awesome.
I woke up at 3am this morning. Didn't want to get out of bed. But then I did, gathered all my stuff, and got to the race. I had made a list the night before so I felt pretty confident.
Then I get to the race... look at my bike and realize, "OMG I have no water bottle!" I forgot the water bottle! Thankfully, 17 miles into the race a nice girl at the college gave me some water intended for runners coming through later. I was very thankful!
Some guys made fun of my mountain bike. But then I beat them. One guy even rode up and said he was trying to catch up to me to apologize about making fun of my bike. I loved beating people who bragged about their $10,000 road bikes while I'm riding my $200 mountain bike (okay, maybe it wasn't that cheap but I doubt it was over $300).
Then I got to watch one of the runners from the group finish, but after that I went to drink beer and sit and relax. And then went home, went out to eat a huge meal, and now I'm contemplating a nap! But overall, that was really cool and for the first several miles I really just felt like it was awesome more than feeling sore and hoping I could make it like I was afraid I'd feel. I guess training in a hilly area helped because the "hills" of this course were like nothing to me, although they did stop a few people. I definitely had a lot of fun and while the official results aren't in yet, according to my handy speedometer, I finished in 1 hour and 46 minutes.
