Why do people take drugs?

Why do people take drugs even though it ruins their lives?

In some cases, its an actual physical need. Addicts' bodies develop an actual need to have chemicals for the person to feel "normal," and when they don't have them aftre taking them regularly, they go into withdrawl and have physical reactions.
