My baby's first birthday is coming soon too, well, it's next February actually, but I've been thinking of it since some time ago. My husband and I have decided not to make it a big birthday party, but just have two family gathering, one with my own relatives and the other with my husband's relatives. We'll just prepare some food and drink for the visitors, and of course get my baby a set of new clothes too. Well, it's just normal, I suppose. I've heard someone saying, you can prepare certain objects, such as pen, book, money, candy, toy, etc for your one year old baby to pick. My daughters first birthday party was small it was just me her and my mom and dad and siblings. I do not think a child really needs to have a huge birthday whene they are that youg becouse they are not going to remember it. But everyone feels different.
