I wear a gold chain daily. It is a heavy chain with a special pendant (thali) which shows that I am married. I am supposed to wear this chain everyday throughout my life as a symbol of my marriage. I am extra careful when I use public transport. I fear sombody will snatch my chain. It weights 40 grams which is 1100 dollars worth. I feel very uncomfortable to wear this daily. I am planning to change to a small chain and use the same pendant. Do you wear a gold chain daily?

Yes, I do. But I wear it not because of some religious or social reason, but just because it likes me and it a gift from my parents. I can take it off when I want, I mean I'm not obliged to wear it.

Hi there! I do not feel like wearing any gold chain or for that matter any gold ring in my finger. Yes, it is true that now a days life has become unsafe at public places and lots of incidents of chain snatching keep happening and one should be careful about one's gold ornaments at public places.

No!But I like to wear one and after my marriage,I wore a chain for some months but I felt it more uncomfortable and I stopped wearing it.It is because of our hot climate,I couldn't bear it to wear all the seasons. Now only when attending a function,I use to wear it.I can understand your must to wear a thali and your idea to switch to a thin one is appreciated.Cheers!

Ya I do wear a gold chain daily but as a precaution I keep it inside my blouse, especially in public places. My golden chain is not too big and heavy, so I am comfortable with it. I too don't like to wear big and heavy chain. It also may attract thieves. I hope you get a small chain as soon as possible. But i presume that you must keep the chain which you got on your wedding day......

Hi..daliaj i do wear a gold chain with a small stone pendant.I am a college going student and i wear the gold chain everyday.I do not like funky fashionable neck chains, but i do like to change my earrings everyday and at the same time i am very choosy about earrings i wear,i prefer only single stone studs or small cute earrings.I am very comfortable in wearing a gold chain.I feel gold chain gives a finishing touch to your make over and adds that extra lustre to your looks. Yes i agree with you,one has to be extra careful while using not just public transport but also when they are riding in their own two wheelers as well. And more than all this there are some positive aspects of gold which makes me crave for gold ornaments.Gold is precious metal known, gold when bought on auspicious days like akshaya tritiya or during the occasion of dhanteras is known to bring in more luck and increase ones wealth. And also gold can be converted into cash when need arises.Investing in gold is being rated as the best investment.

Here in our place the sign of a person being married is the wedding ring. I don't have a very expensive wedding ring, just a simple band. We didn't think it was practical to buy an expensive set since we will be wearing it everyday and thieves or other bad people might take interest in it if it was studded with diamonds and stuffs like that. What matters is the union of two people that is symbolizes. Other than my wedding ring, I don't wear anything gold at all. My accessories are mostly silver.

Hi daliaj, I do wear a chain everyday and exactly the same weight of your chain. But recently I changed it because of the same reason you have written. One of our known persons lost her chain, snatched somebody coming on a bike. It scares my hubby and he asked me to change the same and now I am wearing a small one. Now I am not comfortable with the small because earlier it was long and I can hide the same in my suit, now the small one is very much visible.

What do you mean by Mr.T? I don't understand. Is it something scary? I also like silver ornaments. Silver is very cheap in my place. It is only 80 cents per gram and also some making charges. I have a few silver ornamnents; most of them are earrings. The problem with silver is it gets oxidised and becomes black color if we use the ornament regularly. I have a cute silver bracelet presented by my husband on last valentine's day.

It is in our Indian custom that wearing thali is mandatory. My mom and gran mom wears thali which weighs the equivalent amount as you mentioned. Yes women who wears thali(Golden chain) must be extra careful since it is a form of an open invite to pick pockets and chain snatchers especially if you travel in a government bus in India. Being a guy, I never have any ardent interest over Gold and I never wear Gold. I just wear one copper bracelet and silver ring as a part of my religious custom.

Yes i sport a gold chain for my daily wear which goes with the mangalsutra like you have said. It also weighs around 48 grams. But i have never felt it uncomfortable except for hot summer days. I also love wearing a chain or more on festive occassions or functions. But as you are a working woman it is better to go for a simple and small one to avoid chain snatching thieves.

hi daliaj, Glad to meet you here again! I have several gold chains but I don't wear it everyday. I wear it on special occassions or it depends on my mood. I just keep it with the rest of my jewelry collections. Jewelries for me are investments, I can sell it anytime I need when I'm running out of cash. But some of which are with sentimental value such as the ones given by my husband as gift, I'll be keeping it for myself. Good Day!

No, I don't wear a gold chain daily. I usually don't wear any jewelry at all except my wedding ring. I'm not a big jewerly person and I know that sounds funny coming from a woman. lol I think jewelry is very pretty but I just don't like to wear it often. I have holes in my ears for earrings and I don't even wear them. If I were you I would probably change that chain too because that is kinda putting it out there for someone to steal if they think it's real and if they think they can get money out of it. I think it would be safer for you if you changed to a smaller chain that isn't worth as much as that one. You could still wear that one when you are around family and friends but I wouldn't wear it too much when you are out with lots of people.

Wow I can see that you are in seriuos dilemma as you are caught between sentimentality and the practicality of the situation.I personally dont wear gold or silver unless its a watch but if I had something with such sentimental reasons I may consider changing my view.Great discussion and have a great day

No, I'm not used to wearing accesories on ordinary days. It's not safe anyway, I also go on a lot of places everyday and the risk of losing my golds will be very high.

I do not wear a gold chain daily. Infact I used to wear on untill a few months back. I could never think of wearing such a heavy piece. My chain is less than 8 grams it is sleek too. But nowadays I got bored wearing it and I only wear gold on occassions like for marriage and stuff like that. Also there is no fear of walking free in public.
