I do not know if Mercedes Benz is the best car in the world. Maybe Mercedes Benz is the first carmaker in the world. I think Mercedes Benz cars strong, elegant, durable, convenient and prestigious. Perhaps this is what makes it more expensive than other cars as a class. I am using the 1995 Mercedes Benz C200, and still good for everyday driving.

First Mercedes Benz - Three wheeled Mercedes Benz, the first car invented in Germany
From what I can find out about the Mercedes Benz it is not just the first car invented but the manufactures use the best high quality parts to make them. It is also a status symbol to some who own one. They make only this one car unlike most who have a string of them. It has been tested and has received the award of being the safest car on the road. Any car will last longer if you take care of it. It's recognized as the world's first car: the Benz 3-wheeler patented on Jan. 29, 1886, as a "vehicle with gas engine operation." Carl Benz received patent DRP 37435, which is considered the birth certificate of the automobile and the beginning of Mercedes-Benz. However, after its first drive on July 3, 1886, the No. 1 Patent Motor Car did nothing but gather dust in the backyard of Benz & Cie in Mannheim, Germany. It wasn't until 20 years later, in 1906, that Carl Benz had the original vehicle restored and donated to the Deutches Museum in Munich, where it still sits today.

I believe that mercedes and lexus and other luxury cars are expensive because you are paying for the name brand. Also they are very good quality and they don't break down easily like the cheaper cars. My parents had a mercedes and a lexus and they love their cars.

I guess because it is made in Germany? Even if they are assembled outside of Germany, it will still adhere to the German standards and the patented technology. Germans are known to manufacture high quality, long-lasting, safe cars like BMW, Audi, VW and of course the Benz. Of these, the VW is the most affordable one and the rest are expensive and quite faasst cars. I think it is also because of the status associated with the Mercedes Benz although I heard that in Belgium, it is often referred to as the "butcher's " car. Most butchers (who have lots of money) own a Benz. I don't know what is the best car in the world but for me, the best car would never break down on me as long as it is properly maintained, is low maintenance in terms of servicing and spare parts and is affordable.

First off, Mercedes-Benz are made GREAT. One thing the Germans are known for is there fine Engineering. If you lived in Europe you couldn't believe how cheap Mercedes Benz are. That`s because there is no Exporting Taxes, Which are really really expensive. I used to own a Mercedes SLK 230 Kompressor (supercharger) Drop Top Convertible. The car was beautiful plus I had After Market Rims on it. Now that I'm older I'm thinking of starting a family, a nice economical vehicle something that is good on gas and is comfortable to drive. My only complaint about the 01 Mercedes SLK (I bought it used in 2003). My main complaint was that it was absolutely not comfortable to drive in, Especially during long distances. I'm only 5'7, I can NOT see a 6 foot guy trying to drive that car. Almost All Mercedes have Leather, Tip-Tronic Transmission (Sounds a lot cooler then it really is, That`s just my opinion for what its worth. Are You considering buying a Benz? I think you would be pretty surprised how much they have gone down in value over the years, Not to mention but with the economy the way it is and 1 in 9 out of work unless your Paris Hilton *Thats a whole other story* I doubt many SL55 AMG`s, Which Retail $150,000+ Speed Demon of a Car. I'm POSITIVE THAT CAR IS AMAZING TO DRIVE, HECK JUST TO BE THE PASSENGER. To Someone like myself that is the cost of a house not a car, Now if I win the lottery and I play Everyday (Someones gotta win right?) EVERYONE on this thread gets one and that's a promise! Anyways back to your initial question, Why are Mercedes Benz so Expensive? First of all you are paying for the name to some extent. When Someone tells me they drive a Mercedes I immediately think the person is successful or if the person is really young then there parents are really successful. As I said Earlier Mercedes Equals Classy Ride, In my opinion which I think lots will disagree with, When I think of a Benz Driver I think of a person working a High Position and really has there act together. Birdao86, You also need to remember LOTS of Mercedes Benz arent just bought out right.......GEEZ I would say 60 percent are leased or leased by a big corporation that lets some of the higher up employees drive them *Think of the office, The Boss Michael Scott Driving the Chrysler* lol? ,
