We have been threatening for ages but today we did it.After spending what I thought was all our spare money on my son new trainers and couple of track suit bottoms,my husband took the bull by the horns and turned into Argo and that is where we purchased the exercise bike.My husband and I are getting a bit thick around the middle and would like to see our feet again, amongst other things
.I have been on for about 15 minutes and feel the benefit already ,my husband has also had a go,then our son decides he is going to cycle the equivilent of the route 66 so it looks like I shall have to cycle on it while he is at school.Does anyone else have a bike do you enjoy it,my freind lost so much weight while using hers and in the end only went on once a week,it is also supposed to be very good for cardiac, let me know if it made much difference to you.

When I lived in Vancouver I would sometimes get on the stationary bike in the middle of the night if I couldn't sleep. That and a cup of chamomile tea usually did the trick. I didn't bring it with me when I moved to Guelph but had a "real" bike that I rode around town but when I moved to Hamilton I broke my foot so couldn't go riding. Then I got out of the habit, and yes, gained some weight. So I got another stationary bike through Freecycle, but I don't use it as much as I should.
Good luck with yours. Too often they become clothes racks.

I know what you mean,I have something to stand on and twist,a big lay on thing so I can exercise,a belt that goes round the waist and sends shocks to the bits that need it,most of the things are gathering dust, but this is something I must lose as the weight goes on my back aches so no choice anymore,I certainly don't want to go back to that type of pain and discomfort again.

I don’t have an exercise bike at home but I used to ride one at the gym every day. It is great and relatively safe if you are prone to injuries. For weight loss I think you have to pedal fast to get that heart going but that’s good for fitness providing you don’t over do it. I have not considered having one at home; I thought it would be good to ride while watching TV but my friend who has one says it is too noisy! Good luck with it, have fun...

That's how I would be! I haven't been to the gym in a really long time because we cannot afford it now and the whole family including the dog has gained a little weight. We are heading for summer here so we are all going walking every night. It may not make us super fit but it may help shed some kilos and get mobile again. I might buy an exercise bike one day...

Hi suzzy, I got one last spring when my doctor advised it as part of the exercises he set up for me for my disc problems. The computeraki bit never worked though so I don't know how far I go or at what speed. I was using it daisly for about 10 minutes but then it just got too hot to use. I think I shall start taking it up again this week. I don't know if it made any difference as there were changes but I think that was mainly from the rest of his programme, the bike was more for cardivascular.

I also have sciatica which is agravated by not moving around. The weather is closing in and I need to exercise daily really.Got a bit of a tummy coming along as well.I only do 15 minutes at a time at the moment the last thing I want to do is hurt myself. It is also important for cardio as well any exercise does you good.My friend lost two stone on hers mind you I don't feel the need to lose that much she is to thin, all I want to lose is about 8pound and keep fit and my back working ect.

I don't want to lose anything and I do find it a bit boring too, and the seat is really uncomfortable, but I will start it again this week now I can't use the excuse it's too cold. Just be sure you know how to use it right or you'll do more damage than good - sit with stomach in, chest out, neck straight and aligned with your back and arms lowered towards the bars.
I don't feel it's as useful for the disc problem as the other excercises my dr gave me but believe me with the right set of exercises done exactly as instructed one can strengthen back and neck muscles to a degree that all previous nerve pain goes. I've been following it for 5 months now and no pain, whereas frequently screaming with it before, and more toned up to. The other thing my dr always empahasis is good posture at all times. Good luck

Hi suzzy3, I'm so glad this is working for you. I had one years ago and used it daily for months. Sadly, it had no effect...except to make my knees deteriorate even more quickly.
Early last year I purchased a very expensive treadmill. The roads around here are rough, there are no footpaths and I'm getting a bit doddery on my feet...I have osteo arthritis. I walked on the treadmill too for months and yet continued to gain weight until I became too heavy for it...yes, there is a maximum weight restriction. It's now collecting dust.

Firstly, it was $900...not many around here could afford to pay even half that for this item and I'd want $500 for it. Secondly. It's big and heavy, not the sort of thing you can pick up and put in your car. I had to line up 2 guys to pick mine up from the next town with a tray back ute.
At least with it sitting in the living room it's a constant reminded of my wish and need to lose weight.
Someone gave me a foot spa and I fail to see what is so great about it. So, it soaks my feet, big deal...then I have to dry them, empty and dry the thing and put it away. It's a lot of hassle to soak my feet.

To get some more exercise and partly also to save using the car as much,I bought myself an ebike a couple of Years ago now..I'll take it out whenever it's dry as much as possible to commute or do a "Small" bit of shopping..,but unfortunately, where I live, that's not always an option..I'd rather have the real thing and go places rather than be looking at a wall while pounding the pedals! Working on the Idea that a bike trip is saving Me a taxi ride (on my 4 Mile e/w commute) and calling that £5 a time saved, the bike has paid for itself several times over since I got it..and that's only counting commutes and shopping runs..I'll take it out for fun too..

It is really surprising how much you spend on fares ,we are stuck with paying 70 pound a month for my sons fares to get to 6th form before we got it free because it was our nearest school. Now it is no longer compulsory education we have been landed with the fares, money well spent though. There is no work out there and you cannot seem to get anysort of job without proper qualifications.Riding a bike is not practical for him as the road is so fast and dangerous.six miles is a long way to cycle in the freezing cold ,carrying a lap top and all his books,he does go for long rides for fun though. We ride out bikes out on holidays and trips away, but to cycle everyday round here is really dangerous hgvs ,fast cars, ect.Anyway back to the point.I will get on that exercise bike twice a day as 15 minutes at a time is plenty for me at the moment,it does seem strange not going anywhere though.\just sitting there so I have the tv on as well.

I used to ride one and it did me a lot of good! However, my back is so bad that sitting on any kind of a bike is very painful after a few minutes. Even so, those few minutes would be good if I could find one light enough for me to carry down to the basement where there is room for it. I really don't want one in my living room! I could turn the spare bedroom into an exercise room but I'd have to carry it up the stairs to install instead of down!

May be if you rubbed some heat cream ibuphofen springs to mind, and maybe a few stretches to release your back before you sit on the bike.We are pushed for space in our little cottage so it will live in the front room untill company comes then it will get put upstairs. It is not so bad having it where you can manage to use it.Try a pain killer a while before you have a go,after a while your back will improve so much you will not need the painkiller.

Good for you, its good that you both decided to get healthier. I don't have a bike but I did have a treadmill, I myself get bored doing one thing over and over, so my mom took my treadmill and I found something else that works for me. As long as we get some kind of exercise is all that matters, it doesn't matter in what form.

Exercise is so important, running and jogging have become impossible for me as I am going through the change of life and my down stairs is not comfortable enough to go out running these days if you know what i mean.Weight is piling on and something has to be done, plus I suffer from sciatica as well ,if I don't watch out I will become a blob in a chair and only being just over fifty it is a long time to sit there. You are right some form of exercise is all that matters you just have to find a form that suits you.

I have long been wanting to have a stationary bike myself. It is good to exercise at the comforts at your own home. I love to make my body feel alive and to do the things that I have long been wanting to. Living a sedentary life , sort of is not good. I have long delayed the exercises that I need to do. I did a little stretching myself and it does feel good. Exercising is something we should not neglect.

I've had my bike since 2005 after I injured my back at work. I initally bought it for part of my physical therapy, but since that time it has become a part of my workout routine. I'll typically ride on it for about 30-45 minutes a day on a higher resistance and I can still feel the benefits of it everytime that I ride. Having the bike has brought my endurance up and has also helped me to lose some weight as well as firming up the muscles in my legs. As long as you use it, they are great investments.

I also suffer from a bad back and hopefully it will strenghten my back.I have also got gyni problems so weight is piling on and I need to regain use of my tummy muscles or I will end up in a lot of trouble.I find it very difficult to road run or jog any more so hoping this will help me like yours had helped you.

Exercise out doors as far as possible. There are two advantages of doing whatever you are doing out side. One advantage is that it gives your body a chance to get a lot of the much needed fresh air and sunshine. The second advantage is that the surroundings keep you perked up and it is a break form remaining cooped up all day lon
