Two babies killed by their own mother and grandmother.

Friends, I just want to share a news, which happened in our state, which makes me hang my head in shame. Two twins both girls were killed by their mother and grandmother. One's neck was slashed by a blade, by the mother while the other one was smothered and killed by the grandmother. What was the reason. Their only fault was they were born as girls. I was horified and sad when I read this news. I was feeling quite bad that my own people have gone to such a level. Of course both of them were arrested, and they are cooling their heels in the jail. The sad part is both of them do not regret their act. Share your thoughts on saving the female baby.

hi god, what a cruel act of mother and grandmother.i dont get what is the problem in bringing up the 2 girls.its the money being spent on those girls also.when it comes to getting them married, all the dowry system have been created by us.when god doenot see the difference ,then why we need to differenciate people on gender,if those twins would have been baby boys ,they wouldnnot have killed them, only because they are boys.these people should be shown the hell here and they should be given miserable punishments.

I hope the dowry system, is eradicated in India. Once this system goes, the baby girls have a better chance of living in India.

hi I always thought India was really wonderful in regards to their children, but what little I know came from the Indian couple who were close friends of mine, as they took their adult son and adult daughter both in when they both had illnesses and financial troubles. I thought they were so loving even when they were miffed at their adult kids.

Wow, I'm surprised I didn't hear about something so tragic! Which country/state did this happen in? Also, what happened to the mother and grandmother? I'm so sorry to hear about what happened. Some people have twisted minds. I hope the culprits get what they deserve!

First of all let me welcome you to Mylot and I am quite happy and thankful that your first post is for my discussion. Best wishes for a long innings in Mylot. This happened in Indian, in the state of Tamilnadu to be exact. Both the mother and grandmother are colling their heels in a Jail, and I hope they stay there for the rest of their lives.

I do not know why one's life is endangered by their own family. Family is supposed to protect its members but the sad part is that they turned out to be one's ending their lives. I hope that the kids will be put to justice and in time they will feel guilty of what they had done.

This is truly horrific, but unfortunately the most vulnerable in our societies - worldwide - are the easiest to mistreat and abuse. There are cultural causes that need to be considered - people are obsessed with having sons to carry on the family name, when really it's nonsense: what's in a name? A rose, by any other name, would smell as sweet.

In india especially in your religion, girls are treated very low and badly too. they even now have not reached the position of boys and the parents due to financial and future reasons do not prefer a girl over boy. the main reason being the dowry, and it true too that the girls parents have a big burden to collect dowry for their daughters the whole life so killing is far better in their option.

It is not only Hindus, all the people of different religions, want to have only a Male as as issue. Of course I agree that Dowry is a menace which has to be eradicated.

I don't think it matters whether a baby is male or female. The point is, they are live human beings. These people obviously had something very wrong with them in order to commit such a horrible act against tiny babies.

As I have mentioned earlier, they are mentally allright. Due to the extreme poverty in the Indian villages, some people do not want to have more than one or two girls, since they may not be able to give a good life like education and marriage. This is one of the reasons behind the killings. Thanks for the response.

It is still wrong. They could have found a home for those babies. Adopted them out, or given them to someone that would take care of the babies and children.

Shameless sinners is what I have to say..pardon my words there. Not only is the act inhumane and barbaric, it is also so sad knowing that the own mom and grandmom, blood related and all, could resort to that just because of the gender. I don't know what were they thinking, but I really wish there aren't others like this.

hi rameshkumaar57 if there is a hell those two deserve to roast in it forever. Thanks for the response Hatley. As a new grandfather, I also felt the same way as you did. This particular news disturbed me very much, that I was not able to sleep for the entire night, when I read the news.

I know in some religions they want boys born first, which is why most hospitals don't tell certain women what gender there baby is incase they do something like this or harm themselves. I think it is terrible that they resorted to murdering the two girls, they could have at least left them somewhere where they could be taken care of say a hospital, outside someones house or something. It doesn't just happen in your state, this kind of thing happens all over the world. Recently a baby was found near a dustbin a few miles from where I live, Im not sure if the baby survived or not but this is type of thing is most common with young teenage mothers. They are scared of what could happen and feel they cant take care of the baby so they dump it.

If it has happened to a teen aged unwed mother, I would not have been much bothered, but this has happened to a woman who is married, and already has a baby.I hope the world changes into a much better place to live.

oh my god! that's so horrible! very inhumane! those babies are innocent! and why didn't they like to have a baby girl? its sad to hear news like this...that there are some people who are capable of killing babies...while there are some who are struggling to have even just one baby... maybe if they don't like female baby, then just give it to other people who wants to have a baby...babies are blessings from God...whether its male or female...

Yes it is indeed a pity, that when some are not able to have a baby some people are so cruel, that they kill their own flesh and blood. My only hope is that both these woman will be punished by the law. Thanks for the response.

It is just sad to see that some people feel that a girl child is worthless. That is just so wrong. I hope people change their minds and start accepting a girl child just like how they do with a boy child.

Sheetalnr, it is with young Indians like you to change our culture, so that the girls are not considered as a burden to the families, and they are treated on par with the boys.

Hi ramesh, I was really saddened when I read that because I thought of all the childless couples in the world that want to have a baby and cannot. Also all these parents that shouldn't be parents are having kids when they shouldn't- so unfair & unjust! My husband and I are trying to have one at the moment and we pray it will happen very soon!! (keeping my fingers crossed). It's absolutely barbaric & heinous how your own relatives can kill you just for being a girl! What makes it even worse is how you mention that the grandmother and mother have no remorse whatsoever for that despicable act they committed. It would be nice if the law changed in that state and they were to enforce stricter punishment for their crime, although what are the chances of that...I was sorry to hear about your granddaughter, I hope she's doing much better in health now? She's certainly very lucky to have all of you. Have a nice day. :)

Ilyzium, I am blessing you, that you should have a child at the earliest.Within the next year you will be a proud mother.Yes my grand daughter is quite fine now, and even today I am going to see her, since yesterday was Deepavalli our biggest festival. Unfortunately, the law is quite soft in India, and in particular, they are quite lenient with woman. So most probably these woman might get a few years in jail, and with all the remissions for good behaviour and all those things, they will be out of jail in maximum 3 to 5 years.

Oh rameshkumaar, how sorry I feel not just for the babies but for the mother and grandmother as well I know a lot of people say hung them, but first we should look at why they did it? I should look at the husband and see what he thinks about this barbaric act. There are at least one other country that I know [I won't mention the country] that they put the baby girls in a room and [they don't kill them] but they are left to die! sad but true and who do you think make this law? Man of course, and women are so scare they abandon their babies [ girl] in any place so they won't be punished. So do not be to hard on these women [ I know they commited a horrible crime] but at the end of the day we all should look for the root of the problem and maybe then we can help these women that are trapped in such situation to stand up for their rights and choices as a human being.

Alottodo, in our state, there are special orphanages, with a cradle kept in the entrance, so that these unwanted children are kept in the cradle without anybodys knowledge. These woman could have done that, there was no reason to kill them. Of course you are right, the root cause, should be solved. It is in the hands of the younger generation of India to change the culture, and see such things are stopped.

That is absolutely horrible! I do not understand how anyone could do this to another human, especially to babies. These people should be killed, they do not deserve to live after committing these crimes. I wish that I had not seen this story as it just so sad!

Hello friend, I am still horrified to hear and read this topic of yours my dear. Thu,i have known about this (female infanticide/fetocide)still,i can't imagine this kind of cruelty and inhuman actuations. As far i know,i have watched before from one of India's tv news(cable station "SAHARA ONE").The pregnancy gender scan was banned due to this female infanticide,so,the mother had no choice but to wait until she gave birth, and this killing occured upon knowing that the baby is a girl. And this is due to the "DOWRY".I have known from one mother why she wanted to had an abortion when she learned that she is carrying a baby girl which is 7 months olds. The non-governmental authorities(women desk) were trying to convinced her not to do it,or,they were begging her to wait till the baby comes, and if,she don't want to keep the baby, the NGO's will took care of the baby. And,to the last part of that documentary segment, after the mother gave birth to a healthy baby girl, the women desk return to her and ask about her decission, and the mother says ..."i will keep my baby "..i was really in tears while watching this documentary news. I guess...more NGO's(non-government organization..for women desk) should grow in India..to enlighten people the equality of women and men.

That is just sickening. I couldn't imagine hurting either of my two children. I have a little girl first and a little boy second. I realize that when I was growing up, the Asian people didn't want to have female children because they were much less valued than the male child. However, I still don't think that is a reason to kill an innocent being. Those poor babies never even had a chance at life and they could have grown up to be the person that finds a cure to a disease or some other equally impressive feat, but now we'll never know. I am glad to hear that the two women are in jail, but I wish that they would also show regret for their actions.
