Is this job lying to me or something?

My friend and I just graduated from EKG & Phlebotomy class. We live in NY where these type of jobs are supposedly in high demand. He told me to go to this one place that he just applied at because he dropped off his resume there and now he has an interview this week. However, I called that very same place and asked them if they're hiring for those positions and the person told me they're not right now. So... how is that possible when my friend has an interview there this week!?!?!?!???????????? Is the person who works there lying to me?

The person who works there probably wasn't lying to you--it's very likely that they have received so many resumes that they know the available position(s) will be filled by the time they finish interviewing all of the candidates. It could also be that they are looking for people to fill positions, but the employee you talked to was out of the loop and not aware that they're conducting interviews for them.
If I were you, I would still go down in person and submit my resume for consideration. Even if they do not currently have a position available, most companies will keep resumes and applications on file for anywhere from 30-90 days. And don't be afraid to apply to other companies, too. Keeping your options open when you're looking for employment is one of the best things you can do to make sure you get a job you like.
