What Size is your Bed

My husband and I share a queen-sized bed. We've had a queen-size since we were married five years ago. Before we were married we had a double bed that we shared and honestly, when we very first met we would sometimes share his twin bed at his old apartment. So, I'm just curious to know what size beds other mylotters sleep in. Do you sleep in the bed with someone or do you sleep in the bed alone? Why did you chose the size bed that you sleep in?

Oh my gosh, your situation sounds just like mine!! Currently we have a queen size bed . . . which is plenty big enough for our place considering we are putting a crib in there too for our little one to be. A king size looks way too huge (and I don't want to be that far away from my hubby in bed - ha ha). We only upgraded about a couple years ago . . . for a long while we had a full size bed (I guess that is the double bed size) and that was fine too. But well before we got married, we were sharing his dinky twin bed too - ha ha - how did we ever manage to do that???!!!

I so often wonder about how we were ever able to share the twin size bed. Heck, I can't even convince myself to sleep alone in one now. However, my daughter does have a twin bed and my son is going to be moving from his toddler bed to a twin sized bed as soon as I can get a mattress for him. Congratulations on your new little one to be. When both of our children were smaller, they shared the bedroom with us as well. I never co-slept with them, but for the first several months they were right next to our bed in a bassinet and then when they got a bit older, we moved them into the crib that was still in the bedroom. Having them in the room with me when they were small made me rest a lot easier than I would have been able to do were they not in the room with me.

I know! Granted we're not very big people, but still . . . trying to fit on a twin bed now would be insane! My little one is in a twin now too, but I can't imagine me sleeping in one! Hope your son will transition well to his big kids bed! Thank you for the congrats! We only have 2 bedrooms, so my daughter gets one and we get one . . . the second one will have no choice but to be with us (as long as we are here anyway). It'll be more convenient to have the baby with us instead of having to walk to another room. We'll have to figure something out with the second one is old enough to be in his own room! Perhaps our situation will be better by then and we can get place with another room!

I bought my bed back when I was single. I went to the store looking for a double bed, but this particular store only had queen or larger, so I ended up with a queen size bed. The apartment I am in has tiny rooms, the only way I could fit a queen size bed and some bits of bedroom furniture into my bedroom was to have one side of the bed against a wall. This wasn't a problem ... until the boyfriend moved in three years ago. When we first got together, he would sleep on the inside (the side against the wall), which means that when he would have to get up, he'd either have to climb over me and wake me up, or climb over the footboard of the bed. He's really tall so he's able to climb over the footboard without hurting himself. Every couple of months we switch sides. These days I'm the one sleeping on the inside. The boyfriend is such a gentleman that he always gets up to let me pass. I tend to go to bed later than him, so I'm constantly waking him up.

That would be a huge issue for me now that I'm an adult. I cannot stand to have to sleep up against a wall. It does remind me of my best friend and her husband when they moved into their first house. They had their bed up against a way like that because their rooms weren't bit enough. I was shocked when I saw it, but it worked for them. For us, it definitely wouldn't work because one or the other of us is constantly having to get up to use the bathroom during the night.

My husband and I have a queen size...would love a king...but we also share the bed with our dog on occasion. We have labs up until abot 1 1/2 years ago they both slept in bed with us or should I say they allowed us to have some space in our bed. Now the older of the 2 can't climb up anymore, so the younger one still does. Thankfully in the summer they prefer the floor.

That's one of the things that I've almost always done in my life was share my bed with the dogs. That is, until I met my husband. He really doesn't like having the dogs in the bed with us. So, for the most part they aren't in the bed with us. They only come around when it is extremely cold outside or it is storming.

I sleep in a queen sized bed and it serves my purposes quite well because I live alone and so far I have only fallen off a few times and its only because I sometimes sleep near the edge even though I have enough real estate to do the most eloquent acrobatics. My only problem with my bed is that I cannot find sheet to cover it ,its either I purchase sheets that are too big or too small but I am getting used to this by now.My last buy was quite good

When we upgraded our bed, we too had problems remembering to get the right sized sheets for it. Now, not so much a problem. I too am the kind of person that sleeps near the edge of the bed, but luckily I've never fallen out of my bed.

I have a verry big bed for 2 years and it`s quite nice , because sometimes i really need to lay down a little after a hard day , but in other days, i feel so loney in that huge bed . For one person it`s not so good , if you can understand me, but for a couple it`s so nice, and you have so much space . You can be even 3 in this bed, and you`ll have enought space .

I know exactly what you mean about it being too much for one person. Sometimes when I am in our bed by myself I feel lost in the bed and it is much smaller than the bed that you have.

Hi Dorann. When married, we had a queen size for comfort, as he was tall and wide and such. When I moved alone into my apartment, I downsized to a full bed, since it and the sheets and such are much more economical.

That seems like the perfect solution for you. I had a full sized bed of my own when I was a teenager and that was actually the bed that we upgraded from once we got married.

we actually sleep on two twin beds (That used to be our daughters bunk beds) pushed together. we chose these beds just because our daughters both got bedroom sets from other people (a friend was moving and wanted to get rid of them and gave them to us), so we gave my mom our double bed because she needed a new bed too.

I would much prefer to have a queen size bed. You are very fortunate. I have a double sized bed and have that is because it was the only size that would fit in my house before. My boyfriend and I have now moved into his house, and there is plenty of room for a bigger bed. But, right now it just isn't necessarily in the budget. Hopefully one of these days we will be able to move on to something bigger and better. Interesting discussion. Hope you have a nice day!

I'm sure you will be able to move on to something bigger and better in the future. It just takes patience to be able to afford it. If we needed to buy a new bed now, then a queen wouldn't be in our budget either.

Well, the reason that we upgraded our full sized bed to a queen sized bed after our honeymoon is because while we were in Florida on our honeymoon, we got to have a king sized bed. Sometimes I'd love to have a king sized bed but we've never had a bedroom that is big enough for a king sized bed. I just think in would be very nice on those nights when my children decide they need to sleep in the room with us because in addition to the two kids we also end up with the two dogs too, so two adults, a six-year-old, a three-year-old, a hound dog and a corgi. It makes for a very crowded bed.
