What is your passion?

Can you honestly say that you have one true passion in your life? Is there something that you can really and truly say you are more passionate about than anything else? I don't know what got me thinking about this but it made me realize that I really don't have one. It seems like I have lots of interests and beliefs but nothing that I would consider a real passion. I know that people will often say their passions are writing, travel, literature, theatre and things like that. It must be awesome to feel so intensely about something (ya know, other than another person!). It makes me a little envious that people have found something that they have a true passion for. It seems like I don't really feel very strongly about anything! So what about you? Have you discovered your one true passion in this life or are you like me, just kinda of going through life with vague interests and hobbies?

I have to admit I'm more like you, and I discovered that many years ago. It's part of the reason I've never returned to college. I am constantly thinking that I need to go back to school in order for us to ever get anywhere in life, but I just can't think of what I want to do with my life. I can't think of any profession I'd actually like enough... I'm not passionate about anything or skilled in anything!! It's rather depressing sometimes. My kids... well at least my boys.. have already found their passions. My oldest is passionate about sports, and my younger boys all love cars! Not so sure about my daughter, her only interest at the moment is Disney channel stars like Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers.

That's the biggest reason I've been at the same job for so long. I really can't complain since I do like it and the money is good but I definitely can't say I'm passionate about it. There has just never been anything that I've been passionate enough about to leave this job and pursue. There are a few things I wouldn't mind doing and I'm sure one day the time will come where I find one that stands out above the rest. Or we'll have kids, whichever comes first! Man, the words 'passion' and 'passionate' have lost absolutely all meaning after typing them so many times!

My guess is the kids will come first... that's what happened for me.. I just keep thinking that once mine are all school aged then I can take some part time classes... but can't figure out what I want to learn!! Are you double checking to make sure you spelled them right? After I type something way too much and it starts to look funny I start wondering if that's truly the spelling or am I making myself look like a fool!

Ya, I used spell check. It's just from reading the same word over and over, it starts to look weird!

I think that once we decide to start a family there will be no question that it will be my passion.

I used to have a real passion for playing the guitar but since my divorce I haven't any music in me. I'm sure it will come back, though, given time. Other than that, my life is in transit right now with no real passions. No time. I'm struggling just to get by and save enough for retirement, which will consist of trying not to be a burden to my kids. I'm sure it's not quite that grim, but looking at my words I can see I need to retune my attitude!

It does seem that life just takes over and leaves little room for things like that. It's a shame but it's also reality.

hi jesssp My passion which does not ever seem to go anywhere 'is writing. It is something that I have to do each day.but the odds of getting things published is staggering and the cost of sending out things to book companies gets more' expensive all the time. but I keep writing as its just part of who I am really.

I think as long as you truly enjoy it and it makes you feel good to do it then it really doesn't matter if you are never published. Even just with things like Mylot you're able to touch so many people, I think that's even more valuable.

I don't think I really have one either. I like a lot of things, but I don't feel extremely.. passionate about one thing in particular. It would be cool if I did, though, because that would probably give me a lot more direction in life and school. . Instead I'm just kind of all-over-the-place. Maybe this means that we.. like to balance out our lives with "mini-passions" or that we still haven't discovered our "passion" yet. Or maybe some of us are just.. not the "passionate" types (although.. In a way, I feel like everyone has at least a little bit in 'em). I agree with you, though, it would be nice to be extremely talented or interesting in something. But who knows? Maybe tomorrow we'll try something new and discover that we're passionate about.. pottery. Or knitting. Or whatever. Who knows! Time will tell.

I think it's the kind of thing that just has to present itself to you. It seems like if we were to try to hard to find or create a passion then it just wouldn't be the same, it would seem forced and unnatural. So until something really calls to me I guess life will just be business as usual (not that that's a bad thing)!

Hi jesssp There is nothing wrong with not having a "passion" in your life right now. Maybe you just haven't found it yet or maybe you never will. Nobody ever said that everyone has to be passionate about just one thing. As long as you have interests outside of work that you like and that make you happy, than thats good enough. I was in my late 40's when I discovered mine. Cooking is what i am extremely passionate about and until I lost my job of 23 years in a downsize, I never knew it. I enrolled in culinary school at age 43 and graduated 3 years later. Its never to late to start something new. For me, cooking is creative, fun, brings people together, and can be very challenging. I am writing a blog and have been writing recipes for about 10 years now and would love to someday have a cookbook. Creating recipes is hard work and you really do have to be "passionate" as well as patient to excel. People ask me all the time, "Dont you get sick of cooking", the answer is "NO" so I guess that definately makes it my passion. Dont sweat that you haven't found yours. If its ment to be than it will come when the time is right and if not, so what?

That's neat, I like to hear about things like that. I'm not really worried about not having one, if I'm meant to have a passion then it will happen in it's own time. I'm happy with my life now and definitely don't feel like anything's missing, but I still like to hear about the things other people are passionate about and how they discovered it. Thanks for sharing yours!

My passion is helping others (like you with this question. P.S. Sorry you need to make a speech! I would hate that!) but I especially love animals, so I picture myself recently out of college, attempting to get a job as a veterinarian or veterinary assistant or maybe even a wildlife photographer (I like photography too). But think about it, if you like photography like me, that can be a lot of fun. I mean, taking pictures, messing around with a camera? That's like a vacation you get paid for! If you are a photographer. I hope this helps you with your project/speech. =

I think my passion would be sharing and teaching my knowledge and skills. It was more of an accident. I joined a rescue unit and have worked for about 13 years responding to emergencies. During my stint, I was also tasked to conduct trainings and lectures on how to respond on emergencies as well as in providing first aid. Now that I have resigned from my job, I have continued teaching and training people. I really enjoyed it. It gives me a great feeling and content when you teach people how to help others during accidents as well as help themselves. Perhaps this is my passion...

That's really great, I think that's an awesome passion to have. I think most of the time things like that sneak up of you - you discover them when you least expect to.

Passion is a word gives strongest feeling that we can do every time. The same thing I had in my mind now. My passion is to love every thing. Its hardly impossible to love everything in our life.. Like Good and Bad what ever happens in our life. This is a big passionate thing to me. At the same time I love to listen others its the most wonderful gift given by god to me.

I can say that I'm more like you.. I don't have any real passion to make me enthusiast wherever I go, Whenever I spent my time. Everything that I'm doing regularly make me more bored when I'm doing that again, doing that again. What I'm looking for on this life was simple, it's silence, although I get it inside my self, neither in anywhere nor anyone. And I already got it. A reason why I still continuing my life wasn't for surviving life, It was simply to find my enough word.
