Update on my son

As most of you know, my son has Cerebral Palsy and is a wheelchair. He had scoliosis surgery, put rods in his back, in March and ended up with an infection. They had to do two more surgeries in April to clean the wound and take out his Baclofen pump, which he had to relieve muscle spasms and tightness in his legs We went to the doctor yesterday, they did x-rays, and think that his back is fused up. They said that it is the fastest recovery they have seen. They are ready to take the rods out. They are going to do a Cat scan first and make sure it is all fused good before doing so. They are going to try to set it up the same day we go for Botox injections in his legs, which is something they are trying, to relieve the spasms and tightness in his legs. I am so nervous. I am kind of excited. I am so ready to get him off of antibiotics. It has been a very long road. Please keep us in your prayers.

Prayer has been said for u & your son. I am so proud of the good news for him. I admire u very much for what u do for him. Of course any good mother would do the same & i know u are a good one but there is so many that are not & that is very sad to me. I hope the ct turns out well. Good luck to both of u. Thanks for the update. God bless.

hi thoroughrob hi you and your son are in my prayers from today right on. hope everything works out for him. It is so interesting that Botox is being used in a variety of situations, I do so hope it will relive your son's spasms and tightness in his legs 'as you two have been on a long road now to some recovery. I will keep praying and maybe all other mylotters will join and that will be most powerful. good luck.

Bless your son's heart. Your son and your family are in my prayers. I pray that he won't have to take antibiotics or have any more surgeries anymore. I also pray that the botox injections works and your son won't have any more leg spasms. I do pray that he gets to have a fun Halloween this year, and years to come.

Well yes absolutely you're in my prayers and it does sound nothing but positive at this point. For anyone with disabilities it's good to hear from others facing disabilities. I can at least walk short distances and this helps me keep focused and therefore I Thank You for the post for your son as well as for myself. My brother in law has Cerebral Palsy as well but a very mild case only crippling to his right hand. Blessings.

That is great news! I will continue to pray for you and your family. They were going to do the injections in my daughters legs too but I had to reschedule it and they never got back to me. The C.P. office itself hasn't contacted me in a long time so I am unsure what to do about it all. Keep me posted!

I do know it seems you have to keep on top of things. Call them, don't wait on them. I am hoping we really see a difference for him.

You and he have been to h3ll and back ....Will removing the rods allow him to move better. Will that help with the leg cramps?Or are they a result of the CP? The poor baby, if he were mine I guess I would just hug him all of the time, life just isn't fair. Please keep us informed....I feel so bad for you all.

Bless your heart sweetie! You and your son have been through a lot, there's no doubt about that but it's coming to an end, this part of it anyway which is a great thing!! I wish I were closer to you for I'd so love to help out and give you a break that you need so badly. Keep your chin up and stay strong! He's going to get better soon! Hang in there!!

It has been a long road, but the results should be what we are looking for, giving him a long productive life, and not a short painful one. I am just so nervous to do this again.

Hi thoroughrob, Wow it really sounds like you both have come a very long way. I know sometimes the road seems to have nothing but steep hills that we can never seem to reach the top, but as you have done just keep at it and as you can see you get closer and closer to the top where it's nothing but good from then on. It's truly awesome that he is having such a good recovery from his surgery and I pray when they do the CT that everything comes out as expected. I wish you both the very best of luck and my thoughts and prayers are with you. God bless you both, Oly

How awful that your son ended up with an infection after his surgery. I imagine that time with the following two surgeries was a very difficult time in your life and I know that at this point in time you are feeling the feelings of excitement and nervousness that you've expressed here. I will keep your family in my prayers as you look forward to the CAT scan and seeing that the fusion is complete before taking the rods out and I also pray for continued speedy recovery for your son.

I am delighted that your son has made a fast recovery from the operations he had had. I hope that the doctors will be able to help relieve the spasms in his legs. I will keep him in my prayers. I know a little boy with cerebral palsy and he is in a wheelchair. He left my son's special needs playgroup and now goes to a school for disabled children. My son is 28 months old. He has spina bifida and hydrocephalus. He is unable to walk. At the moment he crawls around and in the future he will get a wheelchair. He has a shunt fitted inside his head.

My son is in public school. He is now 15 years old. We have been through it, but it is an experience I would never give up. If you need support or just want to talk, let me know. It does get overwhelming at times, but it is so rewarding as you see the changes they make.

Thanks so much! Everyone here has been so nice and supportive. It has been a very long rocky road, but we knew the outcome if we did not do it in the first place.
