Before i moved, i was taking care of my grandchildren (two of them), and my daughter, and averaged about 30.00 a week on groceries. I did take a lot of short cuts though. Also, i only bought what was on sale that week.

I was very careful in what i bought. Usually, i only bought what was on sale, and then i cooked around what i had available. I did use a lot of coupons also. Also, i made snacks, cakes, pies, brownies, and popcorn at home, which cut out buying a lot of sweets.

Hi doormouse There is just me and my hubby that live in my house. So I usually spend about 80 dollars a week on groceries. I try to plan my meals out for the week and get his lunch stuff too. I've been working on how to cut that back some too. It is just so hard with the prices going up every week. Great discussion. Keep up the good work.

I just got back from grocery shopping. I only spent 53 dollars today. I think that will get us thru to next pay check. I still down and planned the meals a little better this time. I will have it made if I don't have to go back during the next week.

I have 5 children that are living at home as well as me and my husband.Every week we do a main shop and that is about £140 sometimes £170 as well as we top up shopping during the week with milk, bread etc.Perhaps your friend buys take aways or is never there at meal times.

We are a family of four and we are now down to less than 100 dollars a week for our food. I cook dinner at home nearly every night (we have cut down eating out from two times per week to 1 time every other week). I write out the plan of what we are planning to eat for the next two weeks and I write out a shopping list. Then I take my list first to Aldi's because it is the cheapest and buy as many of the things there as I can. Then I go across the street to Wal-Mart and get the things that Aldi's didn't have. We aren't eating a lot of junk either. For this week we had soup beans and cornbread last night, we are having meatball subs, black bean burritos, homemade pizza, roast with potatos and carrots and hamburger steak.
