getting one of the tests done sooner

Things are looking up for my husband, well not health wise though, but he a muscular nerve stimulation test scheduled for December and an MRI brain scan scheduled for Oct. 24th of this year. The test for December had been meant for January, but I called the hospital and told them that my husband's condition was getting worse and there is a good chance that he might not live that long - a couple of years at the most - and could they move the test up. Well they did and they asked me if they could put us on the cancellation list so if someone cancelled, my husband could get the test done sooner, but of course, he would have to go in just then. I said all right. Friday, yesterday, they called me back and said if he could come in on Monday, so I said yes and when. After I hung up, I told my husband, and he is scheduled for the muscular nerve stimulation test in the morning. Therefore, it looks as if things are speeding up for us. Not only that, we are getting a van - mind you, someone has to drive us, but it will make it easier to get places. I do not like to use handitransit just for getting groceries and there are times that we want to get something big. So for the question, how long did it take those of you who have als or another life threatening diease or condition to get your medical tests done? I live in WinniPEG, MB. Canada by the way.

It did confirm that he has als. We did suspect it and he is getting worse, but luckily we do have friends to help and at least a couple of them are nurses and one of them's son-in=law's mother had als. They made a list for me to call and are taking turns looking after my husband when i have to go someplace.

Thank you. I never expected us to have so much help. It is nice to know that people are there to assist you when you do not know what to do. We are still getting the van safety checked, and hope that it will be ready for Church on Sunday morning. If not, I guess we will have to wheel down there= well my husband will. I will walk or rather run as his motorized wheelchair goes faster then me.

When I found my lump 2 years ago Aug. by Sept. I had teh breat removal. that was fast as I have heard of they move fast here in the states but if Obama gets his way it wont go that fast any more!

I never wanted my br*st removed and before I got pregnant and gave the baby up for adoption, I was small, but then I sort of expanded afterwards and have not lost anything in that department. I suppose you never had that problem and you were the same before and after marriage. That could have been best of the tendency in your family to get br*st cancer.

That is fast. My lump was benign, and I would never get my br*st removed. We would have had to wait until December to get the test done if there were not a cancellation. And Obama wants socialized medicine. I guess he wants people to die to save money.

Wow!! It is good to hear that you were able to get this Test moved up sooner, but my thoughts and Prayers are with you. I just cannot believe how you keep as stong as you do and find time to post in here, etc. but I know God is in control of your situation and whatever comes from all of this you will be a better person as well. You are so Strong. I know I could never do it.

Well my friend you need to remember to always stay strong for your husband and know God is in control. I am sure whatever happens it will be of God, and if you want to Pray and believe in Miraculous healings with God anything is possible as well.

We did get the test done and it confirmed what we suspected. So my husband will get his medical records transferred to Deer Lodge which is the Als center here in Winnipeg. And he will get the help he needs.

I'm so glad to hear this!! I worry sometimes about you and your husband, all alone and waiting for tests that should be able to be done almost immediately. Here, if you need a test you make an appointment and if the doctor is booked up you call another doctor. Most insurance companies have several docs to choose from no matter what the specialty. And you can always use your own money and not go through the insurance if you can afford it. I hope the tests come back as something good or at least not so bad!

They did confirm that my husband has Lou Gehrig's disease, but then we suspected as much. So now he can get the help that he needs and how to take care of him, such as how to give him something to eat, what food he can eat, what to look for when he has difficulty swallowing - his sister had the same thing and they had to thicken her drinking water with jello so it would go down easier - and it takes him twice as long to chew food as regular people. Not only that, I have to cut it into smaller pieces, almost like the kind for babies because with his tongue flip flopping around due to hardly any muscle, he might choke.

hi suspenseful I am so glad you got the tests moved up; that will save you a lot of stress. I keep praying for you both all the time. I am glad also you are getting the van as it will surely help you both. I have not been in your position really, I have not had to wait too long for most of my tests and for a diabetic if you are in control it is sure not life threathening. When I became ill very suddenly and the nurse thought maybe I had had a stroke they had an ambulance there for me in ten minutes. thank God it was not a stroke at all, I just had a very severe urinary tract infection that made me get ill just all of a s udden and go into low blood sugar reaction. hope you are taking good care of yourself suspenseful as you have to be strong for both of you and diabetes you just do not take lightly, you must care for yourself. my best wishe for you both hatley here hugs too.

The tests were done and my husband does have als or Lou Gehrig's disease. What the doctor said made me a little upset. Als can happen to anyone. There is no blame attached to it. You could live a good healthy life and still get als unlike diabetes where it is your parent's fault if he or she got diabetes, it was their fault of being born with the starve or feast gene. It is your fault that you got cancer because you eat unhealthy, were fat, etc. It is your fault that you got arthritis because you lifted something so heavy, etc. Yet my husband had to suffer for over two years because they assumed he had a conditon (a stroke( for which one could accept blame.
