As a person that has a close family member dat screwed his whole life up on it ive got to say now he is clean he is the person i always remembered him as! I can trust him again i can talk to him again i can even have fun with him again but some do not believe he will change but i say he has already why wont people give him a chance? would you? what do you think?

Hi loneraver, it really is hard when a family member is in addiction and is now getting their life back together. It gets tougher if that person has tried in the past but has "relapsed" and broken the trust many times, it gets harder to believe that "this time" is when they really will stay clean. The only way to do that is to watch the persons actions, are they truly doing the right thing. How are they staying clean? Are they getting help? Do they have a support system? Actions speak louder than words. Just saying "I'm clean now" will not convince anyone. People do deserve a second chance as long as they are doing the right thing. The longer that person stays sober/clean, the more likely others will see that and come around to give them a second chance. It's hard to regain trust once its been broken but if your close family member stays on track, that person will know a second chance.
