I can't seem to get myself past the 5 mile mark. I can run a 10K but not on a consistent basis. How on earth can I get myself beyond this block? My calves and hips were so sore at 5 miles today that I just had to quit.

Go out at a slightly slower pace and see if that helps. I am trying to build up my long runs so that I can do a 10K by Thanksgiving. Currently I can get to 4 miles. And right now I have a cold so I'm not sure I'll beat that this week. But I might try if I'm feeling good later in the week.

I can run at least ten miles before i get tired. Its all about stamina and endurance. If you practice hard and long enough, you'll get past your 5 mile mark. It took me a lot of patience and quite a lot of perspiration to run for a very long amount of time. You should take breathing exercises, and run a lot, but not too much since you'll most definitely quit your goal. If you have strong determination, you'll surely accomplish you goals. I wish you the best of luck to pass your 5 mile mark!
