I have just been given an ebook reading device, as a gift (I love to read, and will read a good book voraciously), and was in need of something to put on there to read. I searched for free ebooks, and was elated to find that there are several on the web for free. I think that it is a good idea to have ebooks for free, because it gives the author exposure and gives the reader a chance to decide if in the future he/she will become a follower of that author. Actually, I don't think that there will be a decrease in purchasing, because if the author is good, he will have a committed reading audience.

I don't think the presence of ebooks will considerably effect paper books selling. Maybe it's different for a lot of people, but many readers (me included) still love the feel of paper cuts and the smell of freshly printed paper.

I think that reading a physical paper book is a lot nicer than reading one onscreen. I mean, you get all these "studies" saying that you should spend less time in front of your computer, and putting books online seems a little counter-productive in that sense. Also, you can't really curl up in bed with your computer...it just isn't the same as curling up with a good book. :)

Well maybe a little, but not that much that will affect severly the normal books. I think that ebooks are more difficul to read than normal books. I have tried to read from ebooks but i just cant do it. Although thats just me and surely there are others who just download the ebook.

I don't think so. I can't read an entire novel online, and i think there are a number of people out there that feel the same way. I think it's a good invention for those people who can, however, I don't see it taking that much business away from bookstores.
