Can barter trade make a difference?

In today's economic downturn, many companies large and small are facing financial challenges. No matter how different people phrase it - global recession, credit crunch, economic tsunami, etc, etc, it is still the same.
The discussion today is, would barter trade make a comeback and be a white knight in shining armor to businesses in today's struggling economy. Whether at governmental level or right down to the small businessmen, barter trading may pose a solution as an alternative financial tool.
What are your views on this issue?

i think barter can help us in some way like barter effectively use if we know the person who accept our barter, we must know our partner well, so we can do it in secure way=)

Currently, I am involved with a company that is doing barter trade brokering. It does help the situation, though not in a major scale, but the least one could have done. Barter trade works effectively when the partners are commited to the platform and to each other.
