I recently found out on a trip to the travel agents that i would NOT be picking a cruise EVER again as my choice of holiday! Why i hear you ask......well because hair straightners are banned on cruise ships now and they dont bother to tell you untill youve paid your £3,000 and your boarding the ship!, I only found out because my friend got back from her cruise to tell me it was a nightmare and whilst she was boarding the ship her bag was searched and her straightners were removed!!!! I was gobsmacked she like myself has short hair that needs to be maintained to not look like a yeti!, She spent the entire time of her £3,000 holiday in her cabin or looking terrible with a hat on her head, I know people may think this is vain but if i pay to go on holiday i want to look good and enjoy myself!! the reason the cruise liner gave to not allowing straightners onto the ships are that they are a health and saftey issue, which you do think ''fair enough'' but they should explain all this before you pay funny how they make you part with your hard earned cash first before they smack you in the face!! I have a theory!....I think they dont tell you because they know that 95% out of 100% of women would cahnge their holiday and cruises would be out of a buisness!!

well it wouldn't bother me. I don't think 95% OF women are dependent on hair straighteners. I don't take straighteners with me on holiday, even a hairdryer.

I think if push came to shove i could live without the hair dryer but i would not lose the straightners i have very short edgy hair and if i dont style it, well lets just say i look like a frizz wig i take to much pride in myself to look bad lol

I just wrap a towel around my wet hair, leave it a while, then take it down and let it air dry. I don't own a hairdryer. the only reason I have straighteners is because my curling tongs are with changeable attatchments to the heating base. so there's a couple of sizes of barrel, and reversable straighteners and crimpers. I don't use it often, but occasionally I like to have lots of curls. but that's maybe a couple of times a year I use them. I'm quite groomed. but hair is not an area I put a great deal of time into.

I certainly would be upset as well, considering a copy of all cruise rules should be given before you pay your money. My hair is short and thick and even though I don't have to use a straightener, I take a lot of care with it to always look nice. If you knew ahead of time, you might be able to find something else to use on your hair. I get those big and soft sponge rollers and put them in my hair while I'm doing my makeup. Then when I brush out my hair, it is smooth and not so unruly. The danger of fire from people forgetting to unplug their appliances might be a terrible danger, however, you would think that they could have little "hair rooms" that would be monitored for safety and you could fix your hair to look good. I've never been on a cruise, but I would have been upset to be told the rules as I boarded the ship. That's really not fair, considering the amount of money it costs to go on a cruise.

Yes i have totally scrapped the idea of ever going on another cruise as i dont agree with the rules at all!!! I need my straightners, like you i have very edgy short hair that needs to be styled or it looks silly. If i dont use my straightners i wear a hat, but i couldnt stand being on a cruise ship for 3 weeks stuck in a hat!!!! What about all the sexy time with your partner aswell?? i couldnt do that in a hat either!

I think that its crazy that the cruise ship wouldn't let you bring your straightener. I have curly hair and I like to straighten my hair the majority of the time. I don't think that I would want to go on a cruise now because of it. When I'm on vacation I like to look nice to go out at night and I definitely would like to straighten my hair. I know alot of friends of mine would be pretty mad that they couldnt bring there straighteners as well.
