I highly suggest that you give him hypoallergenic foods like lambs for dog foods. Just take extra care of him and take him to a vet for regular check-ups.

Pug's are high maintenance dogs. Like Boston Terriers, French Bull Dogs, Pekingese, and English Bull Dog. They are what is considered brachia-phallic dogs which is any smooched face dog. The problem is the soft pallet in the dog is set to far back and often obstructs breathing. There is a surgery that you can do to have the soft pallet reduced, but it costs thousands of dollars.
they are also subject to allergies. It is best if you start them out on a food with no wheat or Gluten of any kind. Corn is generally bad too.
And you have to make sure you keep the folds of skin dry so they don't develop a rash or fungus.
And they cannot take heat or cold very well. In the winter put a jacket on, in the summer don't stay out for long periods of time. usually if their tongue starts to curl it's been too long.
We got a Boston Terrier from the local animal shelter and didn't know all this going in. So we were sticker shock for the first year because of all the veterinarian bills. Our Boston also has seizures, they can't tell us why, other than it may be a food allergy (we have changed four times now we are at the food that is two dollars a pound you can check dogfoodanalysis.com for suggestions on food) or we have noticed when she has really bad sleep apnea nights she will have a seizure during the day. Just one more thing to watch out for.
If you are getting one, be sure it is from a reputable breeder - not from a pet store or puppy mill. Take a look around the place the puppies are born, is it clean? are there a bunch of other dogs? Ask for references, you are making a huge purchase, you wouldn't buy a used car without having a mechanic look at it - same thing with the dog.
